Periodic maintenance tip

Just a bit of advice...not a bad idea to lift all four tires off the ground occasionally and make sure everything is tight.

It is not a fun ride if an axle nut has worked loose and comes all the way off while motoring down the road at 27 miles per hour

Re: Period maintenance tip

Ummmmmm....lets just say I saw it happen....and my wrists are still sore from fighting the damn steering wheel

About 75 ft of slide marks in the gravel before it went into the grass, which is when it started to go sideways but fortunately the dirt absorbed the speed better than gravel and stopped it pretty quick.

Not a fun time at Ridgemont High as Mr. Specoli woyld say.

Probably a good thing it is a side by side and not a 4 wheeler.

No cotter pin?

Re: Period maintenance tip

They don't use cotter pins...which surprised me. They have a notched spot in the threads of the axle and the nut is dimpled into it. The dimpled tang had broke off allowing it to come loose.

Re: Period maintenance tip

Nope. Put it back on and tightened just past the busted part and re-used it till I get a new one. Will take a pic when I replace it though and post it for you to see.

Might have already heppened Dan'l.....sold it last year - if it did happen...hope he got his underwear cleaner that I got mine.

Cook....the nut was laying in the hubcap which was still attached to the wheel when it came off, as luck would have it.

Mine was last lifted in September, when a friend did my oil change/maintenance.

It's still running really well, especially for a 2008, but I don't drive it rough.
