10 Limb Chickens Next Year !
      #199616 - Sun Feb 07 2010 02:53 PM

It seems that due to underutilization, the MDC is gonna raise the daily limit to ten next year.

I'm gonna need a bigger crockpot.

I saw that. 10 daily/20 possession. Yikes. Probably still won't be many more killed than what are killed under the current limits but it will benefit people like you.

I killed a couple of limits last year when they were on the hickory nuts. Before that, it had been yeeears.

I forgot how much fun it could be. I bet I'll take the CZ .22 out again next year.

And I agree, Rafe. I don't see it changing the total kill numbers.

I think the last time I killed a limit was when I was a teenager hunting with my dad in IL. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do with 10 squirrels these days. My 7 y.o. & I are the only ones who would eat them, anyway. Mrs. Hollister and the 17 y.o. would probably throw up in their mouth when I put it on the table.

I gots some dozen to 2 dozen squirrel I been feedin' along with some 10-15 deer, 5-6 turkey and who knows how many songbirds. I gots 2-3 black (melanistic) squirrels, the rest fox.

Mama would chit, as would the neighbors if I harvested some...but this spring I prolly will on the sly. Ought to be plenty nice fat young squirrels what wintered well at our place, to eat.

Yesterday I had two nice 8-pt. outside the house in the driveway, some 15 yards away, tops. Both I would consider shooters...all the turkeys were big toms with long beards. Survivors all of them. Worst winter in 40 years and I am gonna throw them a bone dammit.

Ten skirls is five pies.

Have you got a pellet rifle Mike? or .22 CB bullets are pretty quiet.

We got an old sow skirl raising a brood in my MWA woodduck box right now. She's in and out constantly.

Mike,

Get you a few rat traps, drill small pilot holes about every 3/4" around the perimeter of the end the bail comes down on.

Drive a # 8 finish nail up through each hole, and bait those sumbeeches with peanut butter.

When that sucker goes off, you'll see the best ten seconds of the varmint slam dance / Tae-Bo / or freelance gymnastics ever performed.

A dude has to be creative when a mater crop is at stake.

Don't mean nothing unless you see DMR doing the dying skirl dance in person! Not to be missed!

DMR fluteman, you are one crazy mofo. Your invention tops the gallon of shell corn and mattress springs fer turkey. Even more clever than fish hooks imbedded in soaked corn kernels on a trotline for waterfowl.

I shudder to think what your next device may be...
