Fished MTL on Saturday morning. Lake was high and muddy (about 622). Caught dozens, only 5 keepers. Got checked by the man, who was checking every jug and limb line they could find. We got off the water when the jet skis, pontoons and runabouts started to take over...

Very spotty. Hard to get a pattern. Lots of short fish.

didn't mess with the crappie but caught the hell out of bluecat and flathead... Figured the man would be out so I stayed in a fairly inconspicuous spot all weekend. Like 11 miles up the north fork!

Hit MTL yesterday and caught well over 100 fish with my son. We kept 10. We set the bar at 10" and still kept a few just below that. Had we set it at 8", would would have had a limit in 2 hours or less.

Tons and tons of short fish on every pattern we tried. No trouble catching them off the banks, next to trees, along the bridge piers, etc... We just could not find the good size fish.

Only my second trip to MTL this year and got checked by "the man" both times. First trip we just happened to be in the path of a pair of agents checking limb lines. This time, it was a single agent checking everyone along the bridge piers. I think the guy's last name was Lamb. He was actually pretty nice and personable. Of course we didn't give him any reason to be otherwise. Only had 6 or 8 in the livewell (properly separated) and licenses were good.

All-in-all, it was a nice day on the lake. We got of just before the rains hit. The early morning temps were awesome and the light cloud cover kept it pretty decent all morning.

That's your 7/11 crappie fishing report from MTL...
