PGA Championship - last Major of the year
      #255607 - 08/09/17 01:24 PM

I am going with JS. What a story. Youngest ever to achieve the lifetime Grand Slam. But man, there are literally a dozen or more "favorites" for this one...

Picks?

And griffin, you can tell us who you hate...

I am actually hoping he does. Starting to feel his pain and he seems like a really good dude. Is he the next Phil or Greg Norman. The guy has 2nd and 3rd place finishes down to a science...

He'll be lucky to make the cut!

This one comes down to Sunday. No surprise there.

Hideki pretty much fell down with Kisner yesterday.

Stroud now a real possibility.

No telling who comes through with the pressure packed closing day, including A surge by Fowler.

Next year the PGA is at Bellerive and then I heard this morning they are moving it up to MAY in 2019.

Good finish. Would have been awesome to have it come down to the last putt but that last few hours of that tourney were pretty fun to watch.

No matter what, we were going to get a first time major winner and that is always cool to see...

I get playing a round of golf every now and then.........but how the fork does someone actually sit in their house and watch it???? It's like tennis or soccer.

Do you whisper in the house while watching??? Do you hold clap too??
I'd rather watch transgender eurotraah soccer than golf

I am not going to try to convince anyone to watch golf. You either get it or you don't. There is a reason that EVERY single PGA tournament is on a major network channel for the entire PGA "season" (spring, summer, fall), every weekend. And the 4 majors, President's Cup, Ryder Cup, etc. get even more coverage than that.

It is a great sport with a rich history and the ultimate man vs. himself sport there is. It combines a degree of athleticism and mental toughness unseen in any other sport. Standing on a tee-box or over a 6' putt, all by yourself, with history on the line (not to mention millions of dollars) is something 99% of the people in this world could not handle. Throw in the fact that all but the most physically disabled can play the game into their 80's and it becomes that much more appealing to people.

So, bash and trash it all you want. For those of us that play and watch, it will always be a great sport!!

Mental toughness........get he mental toughness to stand in a ring toe to toe against Mike Tyson in his hayday........let alone the physical toughness. 99.99999999998627 % of the people don't rise to that occasion. I'll take the 6' putt mental game over finding the mental toughness to climb into a boxing ring with any great fighter, let alone Tyson.

As far as coverage......ya the signed a deal with NBC and you have the boring Golf channel Out of 139 events for the year, the average viewership was 500,000 people per event. That includes those big event s that brings in 20-21 million, which occur over a 3-4 day period. Take out the majors and he viewership is closer to 107,000 an event for 130+ events.........FSMW broadcasts about 140 Cards games, with an average of nearly 135,000 households per game. Golf doesn't even compete with a Mid Market baseball team's viewership. Granted, it's usually the #2 or #3 market in the country.......but Golf's average without the major events can't even compete with the Cards nightly.

Hell opening night of baseball this year saw 3.7 million viewers for a 3 hour game. The damn golf match runs all damn day........and only gets an average of 6 million viewers on a championship weekend. Golf viewership keeps NBC relevant as it can be. They don't have chit else for "sports" coverage........unless you count the NBA and occasion hockey games. NBC sucks. The Golf channel sucks.

Well its about the only damn thing their contract allows them to do. Motorcyles, MMA fighting, Boxing, PIckup bBB games, water skiing, snow skiing......you know, all the damn fun stuff they aren't allowed to do because the team is protecting their investment. They allow them to golf, because they know its not a physically demanding game and they can legally take drunk while driving on the course. Plus I imagine most of the pro athletes live in a nice house somewhere on a private Country Club and have to do 50-11 charity events in their off-season that revolve around a golf tourny. I know it takes you a while to catch on, but if you have to be at a charity golf deal for your team, or you are asked to be in a charity golf deal for the fans, or live on a golf course in a private gated community.......it doesn't take someone like Captain obvious to figure out they will probably play golf.

BTW......70% of white Pro Athletes.......or 70% of ALL pro athletes. Somehow, I don't see 70% of the NBA playing golf.

Again, you either get it or you don't. What amazes me is how the "don'ts" are so aggressive with their bashing and trashing. I guess they feel that trying to tear it down somehow makes their favorite sport(s) better. My guess is they have done like so many others and tried it. They found out how hard it is and realized they couldn't be good at it without an investment of time, money and effort. The end result is to call every that can do it and/or enjoys it, a bunch of idiots...

Dawg and griff remind me of my father-in-law. He held equally disdainful opinions about golf and it didn't help when his twin brother and his son-in-law (me) would talk golf and even go play around together now and again. Well, as fate would have it, he ends up begrudgingly playing a few rounds and becomes addicted. For the past 20+ years he has averaged 1-2 rounds a week, when the weather is good and has taken multiple golf trips over those years. Of course I have to remind of his pre-conversion days once in a while.

And it is nice to have a sport you can play as you age. I played men's league sports well into my 40's but eventually you just can't play most of them. The physical toll or what I like to call "the-fun-to-pain-ratio" gets all out of whack and it just isn't worth it. And you can't call a workout at the gym or jogging or swimming laps a sport. I do all of those and they are just physical exercise.

And let's not forget one of the most important things about golf. You can play a round while enjoying a cold beverage, cigar and the company of some good friends!!

So let me see if I have this straight. Because it takes coconut-size balls and some serious mental toughness to climb in a ring with Mike Tyson, that negates the metal toughness it takes to stand over a 6' putt, in front of millions of people, with both history and millions of dollars on the line? What's your next argument; I'm rubber you're glue...?

How about we agree that getting into any boxing ring for any level of championship fight against any championship fighter takes both mental toughness and balls. How about we also agree that there are dozens of other examples... None of which negate what it takes to do what the best golfers in the world do.

You need to get these stats in the hands of the networks ASAP!!! Clearly they don't know what their doing and could be making so much more money, if only they knew what you know about viewership and what works best for their profitability. They are going to be so grateful that you have enlightened them to the errors of their way , they may just give you some free tickets to one of the Majors next year...

Could one of the people with the keys to this place double check to see if halfasmuch has hijacked Jeff's account. While he goes of the rails sometimes, he usually doesn't tee is up like this for us (pun intended).

At my house that's called fishing. And I'm not taking time out from that just to add riding around in a clown car.

I guess if a man doesn't hunt or fish all year long...........he would take up golf.
February-May crappie & walleye fish
March-May turkey hunt
June-October walleye fish
September-January duck hunt.

I spent all weekend on the lake catching eyes. MOMO lake #3 for the year and eyes on every one of them. Gonna make it lake #4 in a few weeks. I guess you bastards suck at fishing. If you need some walleye fillets let me know. The freezer is getting full.

Here is one of today's fish from Little Dixie.

I thought Wapp was lake #4. Maybe you should post up on Ozark Anglers how Stockton isn't the only walleye lake in the state. Taney is killer also. I guess when they eat trout all damn day, they get so big.

Not once while loading the boat to go fish this summer did I
Suddenly look at my golf bag and say damn.................I should probably load up the clubs to play 18 holes. While on the lake filing the livewell with walleye and 14" Crappie...........did I ever stop fishing to think damn, I'm glad I have a Tee time for tomorrow.

A few weeks ago we caught 27 walleye in about 3 hours........the whole forking time we fished..........all I could think about was why didn't we have a Tee time instead of being in the water that fine Sunday morning.

No, they probably golf....fork them...Wait, you golf too.

Well, this certainly explains your fascination with putting a Bimini top on your boat.

Ah, to hell with it, they'll find out eventually......it's not like people don't know where Clearwater Lake is.

The Bimini top is to keep you cooler so we don't have to go in for your afternoon naps and lunch. I have a grill on the Ark for a reason.

A Helix 12 and a Bimini top is alll we need to be semi-professional

Maybe we can catch a match after we fillet some fish. I'm sure the Golf Channel will have a rerun of a match 65,000 people watched. Fork.......Even Tiger Woods hates golf so much, he is busy trying to ruin his life so he doesn't have to play.

Maybe Mac can hook Grief and I up on a walley fishing trip if a lifetime. He does live in Nebraska and it's full of amazing walleye lakes. Hell........I bet I take my boat to Nebraska to fish for walleyes and catch some before Mac even goes walley fishing in the state he lives in.

I guess a man can be 70........smoke cigars, drink Single barrel bourbon and catch walleyea on the weekends. My ol man showed us it could be done this weekend. Good to know it's possible to do........now I know I don't have to golf to get by when I get older.

It's been a good summer bro, but that 10 hour drive to Minnesota has been kicking my arse. I heard there are walleye here but they are tough to target. We should give it a go next year.

I'm happy with his trip to Minnesota to fish, no one nearly drown in 3 feet of water, the rod rack is still on the boat, the console didn't get torn off, the bilge and areator didn't get crushed, all the boat wiring on the batteries are are still fine. That was $1100 I was expecting to spend after the trip to fix chit. I'll put it back to hire a guide in MO next year to show ua how to catch walleye here

The damn boat still pulls to the right when driving..........I gotta get that looked at too.

If you weren't such an asshole to Mac, he could have gotten us a private plane to use for the trip. THEN it would have been a trip of a lifetime.........because you know.........you and I have never flown in a plane before. It's not like my uncle didn't own 2 planes for the last 45+ years, and he flew us all over Alaska. Now if that happened......those could have been hunting and fishing trips of a lifetime.

Maybe Mac can hook us up with Hunt of a Lifetime in Weat Virginia. I need a connection out there to mark that state off my list.

Fork..........I'm still waiting for Mac to have several Scotch drinks, and come back with a "whitty" comment about the hunt of a lifetime. I've never laughed so hard at something written in this dump in a long time........the same damn guy who actually LIVED in a country with unlimited hunting opportunities, no game limits or seasons, unlimited amounts of public hunting opportunity or private hunting if you work/live there, and no licenses to buy.............a country that is a Hunt of a Lifetime For the majority of hunters............and yet he never hunted here. Hell I bet he never fished there and it's world class trout fishing and great offshore fishing. SMH.

Have a few drinks tonight Mac. We need another good laugh.

So, I'm going to be in Chicago tomorrow through Thursday. Going to play in a scramble with a bunch of ex Bears, Cubs, Sox, Hawks, etc... We will shoot well and come in 10-15 under par. A good many of those teams will be 18+ under par... Amazing how good pro athletes are at other sports...

Going to Round #1 of the BMW Classic as well. I'll get some pics and post them for griff and dawg...

I think we were about 10 under. Not bad for us. We made some putts and didn't really miss any that we should have made. We did, however, mange to bogey one hole. A par 4 got the better of us and we managed to not have a decent 2nd shot. Oh well... A great day with perfect weather, a nice course and some good guys to play with. The best part was the round was about 4 hours and 20 mins!!

When I went to my first PGA event at Bay Hill, in the early 90's, I too was amazed at how small many, if not most of the golfers were. Very few over 6' and I doubt there was one guy over 200 lbs. Now, it seems like half the golfers are over 6' and many are 6'-2", 6'-3" and even taller. Seeing Matt Kuchar, Dustin Johnson and the like walk by is impressive. As if 6'-4" isn't impressive enough for a pro golfer, these guys are all spending time in the gym and it shows. They are thick!!

Had a great few days playing and watching golf. Then came home to do a little fishun' and we brushed the duck blind Sunday morn. Contrary to dawg's simple-minded view of life, you can enjoy golf and still hunt, fish and enjoy all the other stuff. In fact, this evening is our last night of golf league and we'll wrap it up with a fish fry afterwards. Fried crappie, homemade chips and a hodgepodge of dishes from the other guys.

I'll be golfing anytime it's in the 40's with sunshine.

I could give a fork if I ever kill a duck again.

I seriously don't think any of you topwater mofo's ever really fished or hunted much. It was probably a once or twice a year social think for yall. You went to deer camp but never left the camp or cabin. You duck hunted with someone who had a pit or comfy blind, and most likely fished a couple days when the slabs were on the bank. The rest of the damn year you clowns watch golf, play golf, and apparently talk about watching or playing gold the rest of the time.

Carry on

Deer camp.....fishing weekend......Duck club.....turkey week.....whatever you want to call it. I think most of you hands just golf, hold your ol ladies purse at the store, and so the dishes and laundry between commercial breaks. Hell, I bet you boys still watch the NFL too.

Have fun golfing and watching golf. I'll make sure to catch your limit of eyes also. Duck season is almost here and it takes a ton of fish to get through the season.

If it wasn't for the unlimited internet plan on my phone, I wouldn't have a TV in my house. I hate watching TV, let alone watching GOLF on the TV. Exactly how miserable of a life does one have to watch golf??

Dude.......I see you still fishing between being an ATM, baseball dad, Colorado, and making lots and lots and lots of homebrew. You might be busy, but you still fish and make beer. That's not watching Golf or playing golf......so we still allow you in here. You have an excuse. I'm not sure if some of these skirt wearing bastards ever did hunt or fish.

Look, ya bastages.....we drafted Haus and he's under contract. Once he gets done with his family obligations he's got a spot in the lineup. He makes beer, WE have not lost our priorities.

LS and Sptsman, no, we let them go as free agents and they got picked up by some guys wearing bermuda shorts, black and white shoes, and carrying suitcases full of walking canes. They are apparently also in charge of the Boy Scouts, and now allow girls to play, kinda like they have with hockey. They seem happy and we wish them well.

Bubba is retired, and old. But he still hunts and has access to a wine cellar......so we keep him on as a consultant to the youngsters. He's like Mark McGuire. He doesn't like the new team management, but he wants to keep his hand in the game and doesn't want anybody looking in his locker to see why he can still hit. He golfs so he can walk around and curse his balls, that no longer go where he wants them to go......we get it, minus the clubs it's all we have to aspire to.

Not yet, but of the 9 offers it is on the short list at this point of probably three. There is a text or phone conversation at least weekly from the top. Going to Ark City Monday and maybe one other visit and then it will be time for him to make a decision.
