Soda pop is highly carbonated, so it has a sharp bite. IPA's are bitter and you may like them. probably one of the most bitter IPA's out there is Sierra Nevada's Torpedo. If you haven't drank beers since the 90's, and you start trying craft beer, cinch your belt up, especially if you try some IPA's. Lots of alcohol content and tons of flavor. You might also try some of the hard ciders out there too. I can't remember which are drier than others, but part of the fun of finding something is the sampling of everything. i think the sharpness you're describing is more related to astringent characteristics similar to a green persimmonm which is commonly called "dry" in the wine industry. -------------------- Never kick a fresh turd on a hot day..
