At fighterland USA, a reference to a Lawn dart generally means one of these.

The pictures don't do that bird ANY justice. Amazing work as always. The hen Scaup is bad ass also. Thanks again for helping with the cutouts Brutha. I see lots of teal in my future. Mallards, a Couple black ducks, pintails and redheads Looking forward to whittling on some wood while sitting on the Gulf of Mexico. The book you gave me to use, has a ton of inspiration and help. As always.........you the man!!!!!!

What Jeff said about not doing your work justice is dead on.
High quality work deserves high quality presentation....and it isn't that difficult to do on the scale your birds are in size.
Here is a link to an inexpensive way to do product photography that will result in a photo that shows off your craftsmanship.

I've been experimenting with a technique called 'light painting'-- tons of tutorials on the net and YouTube and it is even more simple and inexpensive.
All you need is a camera that can be set to manual mode, a lens that can manual focus, a tripod or way to immobilize the camera so it doesn't move through a 30 second exposure and a small flashlight (s)
It takes some experimentation but digital cameras allow you to 'do it until you get it right'
If you look down on the Guns forum, I have an example that took longer to set up and do a few tests than to actually make the image--
here is the jump

I know from personal experience with my photos--- presentation goes a long way

No...I'm the one that says the pix could be better
Not trying to to diss the decoy, I'd just like to see the pix do justice to the carving and the painting because the quality of the work deserves to have quality photos

too good of photo you see all the flaws on the bird!!!!!
I have read about light boxes before, several carvers use them. I will need to read into the subject some. I have thought in the past of doing a shoot box using some old barn wood as my floor and two sides, shade the rest and shoot away. The wife owns a Rebel with a couple ok pieces of glass on it, I am sure I could figure it out. I really like the light painting aspect of it. That might really make a decoy look cool. A carver/artist/photographer in NC does some of that with a dirty workbench background and then highlights his decoys, pretty cool

I'm doing a sheet metal company's web site photography and one of the planned images is to use one of their work benches with some of the tools on a set of plans and doing the light painting technique
I think the dirty workbench with some carving tools and a decoy would be cool light painted-- it certainly would set a mood and forgive the bad pun........
