So Little Brother and I take off a half a day from work to pre-fish Pomme for our little club outing on Saturday. Get hooked up and take a two hour drive to the ramp. Now we are going to meet up with two other teams and bbq and spend the night drinking beer after we fish so, we are looking forward to the evening events about as much as we are the fishing.
We pull into our first spot and nada. Pull into our second spot and about three casts in I hit a short fish. About the time I'm unhooking him, Timmy says, " what the fork, this trolling motor is stuck."
Well go back three weeks and we had some issues with it at LOZ the cables in the head lapped over themselves and she wouldn't turn.
So, Timmy starts to dig out the screwdriver and the wind is blowing us nicely down the bank so I cast again, nothing. Tim finds the screwdriver, I catch a keeper, but the wind is blowing us closer to the bank to I fire the motor and idle us out.
Cover on the trolling motor is off and the cables are fine, dammit. Lucky it was a short run to the first spot. Back to the ramp. Load it and start to tear into the trolling motor. Called a guy from our club so he is close so he comes and looks at it. Shaft is bent or so it seems. Run 4 miles up the road to a marina.
Dude says, "shaft is bent" Tim- "Anything we can do". Dude- "Send it to Minn Kota" Tim- "Got a new one in stock."
$1100 later said trolling motor is in the back of the truck, we head to the hotel. Make a phone call to one of the other club guys and he throws a drill in the truck. Dissamble a Minn Kota, assemble new Motor Guide. Beer drinking becomes assembly and about 8:30 we have a trolling motor.
Heater doesn't work in our hotel room and we wake up about 5:00 am freezing to death. Head to the tourney.
Limit in an hour, caught fish all day long, and in the end won the tourney.............................. $170
