Youth hunt question
      #242984 - 03/06/14 08:30 AM

I have twin nieces that have decided they want to kill something. They are in 7th grade and resonably intelligent, coordianted kids. I would have little trouble teaching them gun safety and how to shoot. So, the logical thing to do is to take them on the Spring Youth Turkey Hunt. If they like it, they can get their Hunter Ed Certification.

Here's the question: The regulations read that they must be in the presence of a properly licensed adult, who has their hunter-ed certification. It does not say that I can't take 2 kids at the same time. Is there any regulaton that would keep me from taking them both, at the same time?

The next step is to call the MDC and ask someone in the enforcement division for a clarification. But I figured someone on this lively, active forum would know...

Anybody run into this or ever take 2 kids?

You can only hunt one youth per licensed adult.

What if the youths have the same DNA?

I assuemd this but really don't see it in the regs that I read. Of course, I may be reading a summary of the regs and the actual regulation may be 5 pages of legaleze. Where did you get your information?

griffin - STFU, I'm looking for clarification about the enforcement of laws. What would you know about that?

For a guy who's been a member for 9 years and only posted 692 times you are being damned bossy.

However the the regs spell out what you can do. If they don't say you can then you can't.

Nonsense!! The regs don't say I can hop on one foot from my truck to the woods but I know I can do that. Well, I used to be able to do that anyway...

The regs I am reading say that a non-hunter-ed certified youth must be on the immediate presence of a properly licensed, hunter-ed certified adult. If I have a twin on either side of me, I appear to be in compliance (albeit a glutton for punishment).

What I'm looking for is a more detailed regulation that spells out where I can't. And this being the internet and all, I figured someone has probably already looked it up and can provide the link or cut and paste it. Isn't that why Al Gore invented this thing, to keep me from having to look all over the place and make a call?

Here is the response from the MDC when I e-mailed them...

Thank you for contacting us. You can mentor both of your twins at the same time. Be safe and have a great youth and spring turkey season.

A guy that works for me contacted mdc 2 years ago and they told him he needed a adult for each yout.
If I were you I would contact the agent of the county you will be hunting, and see what he has to say.

If I was you I'd just take them hunting and wouldn't even buy a damn license or check the 10 birds you wack in. Fork MDC.

Here's the deal... If read the regs and they clearly state that all that is needed is for the yute to be in the presence of a properly licenced, hunte-ed certified adult ...AND... the MDC Ombudsman sends me an e-mail verifying it, I am NOT calling agents or hiring lawyers to for further clarification. I'm going to take the twins out, put one on either side of me and hope like hell they don't spook whatever I call in or shoot me... If we kills a bird or two, I will deal with Mr. Greenjeans when he approches...

The damn agents don't know half the time what is or what isn't the law. I hunted last year with the kids for goat season. I don't buy a goat tag, because I don't hunt MOMO goats. Both kids had tags. One is hunter certified. One isn't. He never asked to see my tag, even though Lauren was supposed to be hunting with a licensed adult. I guess he thought Cody was 18. Don't know.....don't care. He was more concerned about the ducks I hadn't cleaned in the bed of the truck in 24 degree weather. I guess he thought they would go bad for some reason. When I told him I wasn't going to clean them, he really perked up. Told him I didn't have to. They were decoy carving reference birds. That threw him for another loop....so he just left.

Piss on MDC. Take those kids hunting and kill em all. They make more. If its not written that you can only hunt with ONE youth, then you can hunt with 50 at once. They are all hunting with a licensed adult.....and that's all the regs say.
