RAFFLE FOR A GOOD CAUSE-- PLEASE READ
      #261241 - 03/05/20 04:03 PM

I know you guys are well aware of Heart Worm in your part of the country---Out here where I live in Southern CA there have only been 5 documented cases since 2016---could be old #'s though, but that is the # I found on a Search. I have heard of it, but never knew of a dog hereabouts that got it... until now.
A lady friend's Black Lab was diagnosed several days back with the disease. She lives a couple miles west of me. I lost my beautiful Yeller Female Lab a few weeks back to liver cancer, so this woman's problem struck a chord within me. Thus far she has over a thousand dollars in testing, and now the boy is taking meds to kill juvenile worms and larvae as a prelim before the 3 heavy-duty injections to kill the adult worms in the boy's heart---she is a single lady raising a Special Needs son, and flat doesn't have the resources to see her Lab, Hunter's, care through.

I will hold a raffle here, and only here at The Cafe, with Wu's blessing, for one of my old Madison Mitchell Bull Mallard WORKING Decoys---And best I can figger it was carved in the 50's, on into the early 60's. It was made for the water as evidenced by the way it was rigged---doesn't appear to have ever hit the water though. But it has nick's and dings as can be expected due to the years.

The decoy has the often typical old Mitchell decoy crack at the top joint in the neck, as his heads and necks were always a 3-piece sorta deal...also has a small chip at the tail that I coulda fixed, but I have left it as is. The decoy has a nail underneath at the tail area; that nail typically denoted something special about the decoy. I probably have 15 of Mitchell's Tack Butt decoys, with a finish nail in the same spot---He put the finish nail in that spot on his Premium Northern White Pine Decoys---and charged a bit more for those made of that wood. Although, this decoy has a type nail that I have never encountered before, as it has a flat head. I asked a couple collector's I know in The Chesapeake Bay Region, and also a carver who learned from Mitchell in his shop there in Have De Grace Maryland---The collector's drew a blank, and the carver, Joey Jobes, said that it was there for a reason, no doubt, but he couldn't say just what it was all about. It may be a rare Mitchell, or maybe some A-Hole put that nail there years after it was carved???

Gonna ask for a donation to that Heart Worm Dog...The decoy is well worth over $200+, soooooo....a donation of $25 will be required to get a shot at it. That will be an 8+ to 1 POTENTIAL return for a donation.

The lady has a Go Fund Me Page, credit card only it would appear---and has also set up a PayPal direct account for her doggie --- the proceeds ALL at PayPal will then go to his medical needs.

If at least SIX of you fellers post up a pledge for a donation, it'll be a GO...again, it is for a good cause. Tell ya what, if more that 8 of you boys are interested, then I will drop the Donation needed to $20---Simply post up your interest/pledge, and we will go with 20 bucks on your word alone---deal?

I asked Wu to put names of contributor's in a hat, and then pull out a WINNER---I will ship direct at my cost, to include insurance.

Gonna send Wu the necessary Link(s) to contribute. So post up NOW if you are IN, and again, the price is variable ---as least 6 contributor's at $25 each, 8 or more at $20...Soon as she is notified of your donation, in the hat you go!!

Thank you fella's in advance---and just so you know, I am not banging this gal, nor do I have designs to do so ---This is all about saving that boy's life, which I didn't get the chance to do for my Yeller Girl Dog...

WF Jones, AKA: Uncle Duckin'

Thank you very much Wu, this is greatly appreciated!! I told Glenda (Hunter's owner)that if and when she gets a donation to pass along the name to me, I will in turn fire it off to you, and then you can toss them in the hat.

Again, thank you bunches for hosting this deal!!

I'm in!

Could you try to be a bit more confusing for my failing brain? Do I do the GoFundMe deal now or wait until more people say they are in here? It makes me no difference, but then there was the 20 or 25 dollar thingy dealio that lost me as well.

Griffin!! Thank you---Gonna need no less than 6 "I'm In's" before you donate...and as I said if 8 or more folks want in, then the donation required will drop to $20.

I don't want to give up that decoy too cheap, so just be patient, please.

I really appreciate your wanting to help that boy to recover, as will Glenda AND The Boy.

Oh, PayPal doesn't take any of the proceeds, whereas GoFundMe keeps 10%---She had a facebook fund raiser going, and had gotten just over $600 there, BUT, you gotta have a Facebook account to contribute...lots of people don't want to deal with Facebook, so she setup these other two venues for help.

Again, thanks for the support!

U.D.

Let's go you boneheads.....surely there is 7 more of you that can spare 20 bucks so the kid's dog can get treated. There is a pic/video of the hound and the kid on the gofundme site...take a look. This is an easy way to help a kid and his dog, and get a chance at a piece of history.

If you don't know, Mitchell was probably the best known Chesapeake Bay carver. The Jobe brothers, up in Havre de Grace, Maryland, continue the style and tradition of Mitchell still. They were taught by their father, Capt. Harry Jobes, who learned from Mitchell. It would be a cool decoy to own.

Carry on.

Griffin! Over and above my friend!!

The decoy is roughly 60 years old, and not one of his Shelf Models he began to put out after plastic killed his wood decoy making business---It absolutely was rigged for the water, but doesn't show signs of water use. I collect his pre-60's/pre-Shelfy "working decoys", but have a real soft spot for his pre-48's.

Around 1948 he changed his rigging, going to a cross-grain line ring, and a 4-nail ballast weight, rather than his previous 2-nail weight...which makes dating his work a bit easier.

Although, I have run into some 1940 models that had 4-nail ballast weights, which most likely were made by request for discerning, and picky buyers---but those are few and far between.

Mitchell was to working wood decoys what Henry Ford was to automobile production, and he set the standard in body styles for years to come--- in fact, at times it takes an exceptionally good eye to identify his work as opposed to Copy Cats of the last few decades, as most carver's now (like The Jobes Clan) produce a stone Mitchell Style decoy.

Anyway, not a bad deal/steal for $20...

Thanks again Griffin!!

U.D.

AND, he went back to the 2-nail weight on his Shelfies --- another good identification point.

I'm in. Now you only need six more.

I didn't read that whole thing; is there a time limit on this?

Thank you kind Sir!! No time limit other than about 3-4 weeks before Hunter is done with the prelim meds, has some blood tests done, and then he can get that 1st BIG JUJU injection with 2 to follow about a month later I think she said.

Ol' Robert from TMC told me that in Mississippi all 3 injections cost $350---Out here vets stick it up a pet owner's keester it appears.

Locally those 3 shots cost $1,500, along with all the other costs associated with vet charges to diagnose in the 1st place, put the dog on worm meds to kill the baby worms, and larvae, and then have intermittent vet visits. No doubt when this is settled the lady will spend somewhere around $3,500 or better.

Heartworm in dogs is a rarity at this end of The Sovereign State of Northern Mexico (Southern California), but I guess out your way it is common.

That's TWO signing up thus far, but don't donate until we have SIX, then she will notify me, and WU can then draw a name outta the hat, and when there is a winner I'll need an address to ship to.

Thanks again, with FOUR more we could draw at $25 a donation, or maybe when we hit SIX if the SIX want to wait for a couple more, we can go at $20 for 8 or more.

I'll leave it up to those first SIX who want in on the drawing. Although, the fewer there are, the better shot to walk away with the decoy, and WU's cards.

WhOOps!! Forgot to stipulate that IF you want to donate more than once you can then be tossed in the hat multiple times, predicated on the total donation amount of course, as in, before we hit SIX donated, $50 gets two slips with your name on 'em in the hat...AND a double donation will count as TWO towards the minimum of SIX I have required...Capiche?

Well now! Got a $50 donation from someone via this Thread---Regardless they want IN or not, they will be going in THE HAT after we get TWO Mo'...They can assign their potential win to anyone they want to assign it to, since I don't much care who wins or not, this is ALL about getting that Boy a few more years on this totally bass-ackwards planet!!

Grateful thanks to ya for the $50!!

This deal is going over like a turd in the punchbowl! So then, as soon as we get two more pledged donations, the door will be closed, with but 6 names to draw from--and then when those folks have their donation verified, Wu gonna pull a name out the hat. Simple.

Thanks to all!!

Thanks!!

One more, we slam the door, and with SIX, rather than an egg roll, Wu, once ya'll are verified as donated patrons, can do the deed of pulling a name from whatever vessel he decides to pull from.

Fact is, I could allow it to run longer, but what the heck, with as many folks as I can count on fingers/thumbs on one of my hands (yeah...got two thumbs both sides---Thalidomide is hell) IN, odds are better for 'em.

As so decreed, as soon as we get the other 'nother'n last volunteer, in the infamous words of Roberto Duran:

"NO MAS".

Thus far, we got's Griffin, Firebird, MB2 FOR Two, and you.

We are THERE at SIX...Moo just donated at PayPal---So, unless ya'll who are IN want to keep going, we are done with pimping for donations.

Moo is a member here at The Cafe, but the instructions to Pledge 1st on the thread were over-looked, as was the case with MB2, and DjF.

Gonna notify Wu, and proceed.

Ya'll can now make the donation ($25), and when I know you gave done so, on we go.

Thanks so much for your participation---and whomever comes outta the hat the winner will need to pass along a mailing address to me, or Wu.
