First time in four years I have gotten to go after the big fish. Heading up to ludington mi to fish the Peres Marquette River. Fly rods loaded along with waders and the sad thing I have my running clothes and shoes as well.

We hammered them. Tha average was probably 22lbs. It is hard to run in waders.

What weight fly rods do you use? I have always wanted to do a trip like that.

8-10 wts. This trip I was using a G Loomis Trilogy 8wt,10ft. It worked great. I wanted to use a 9 wt as the fish were very fresh and very big, but when I unsheathed the St Croix 9wt 9ft it was the one I had snap on me in St Croix USVI in May. I guess I need to send that back. I have two other St Croix and a loomis that need to be repaired or replaced. I keep putting off doing my procrastenated chores.

moduckdoc, do you use a guide or outfitter or just go it alone. that kind of trip is on my bucket list. Where do you stay when you are there. I might try to get in on a trip like that next year.

this year I used a guide, but of all of the times I have done this, I have only used a guide twice. I am hoping to put together a group next year of eight guys taking four canoes and two vehicles. It works perfectly drop four guys two canoes they float down to nest take out where the other four guys took off from, No shuttle services needed or anything. I stay in different places different times earlier fishing first week of two of Sept Ludington, last two weeks or first of Oct Baldwin. Red Moose lodge is good but so is Baldwin bait and tackle inn Lots of places to stay up there, but you need to get in by July as sometimes it gets pretty crowded.

That sounds like a good trip. I'll watch for a post on it. Did you float fish or fish from the bank? I have some friends in Green Bay that salmon fish out of the bay in the lake and do great pretty much all season long.
