The metal shavings were from the magnet on the flywheel coming apart, so in didn't need rebuilding, just replace, repair and clean. It was still $1000 but not as bad as I had anticipated. It has a 30 day warranty so I am going to run the heck out of it this weekend at the farm and make sure they did a good job. I'm sure it will be okay, they gave me the old flywheel and all the pieces that were floating around when it came apart back to me.
