If you find big ones, it only takes a few for a mess....

Found this one just south of the house up hera in NE. The other pic is of it once I got it chopped down to size and into the frying pan. It was really enough morel for me to get a good dinner.

98% of the shrooms I found were within 60 ft. east of the house under some pin oaks on a northern shaded slope. I estimate I found 30-40, mostly the small greys, then the bigger yellows.

I also found plenty of places again this year where the weren't! But if you like to hunt for them, it's all part of it.

Each year, I go out to several "new" places and look. Gradually I am begining to find enough different places to enjoy eating them again. I ate 'em 4-5 times this year...best results so far in a while!!!

I never hunted for 'em there, but I knew guys in OH that would drive up to MI and find 'em thick. Dunno just where the northern boundary is of their range.

The real disadvantage for me is that I have my whole career moved all over the place. From MO to SD to IA, OH to Netherlands, back to OH, now NE, not counting a stint where I lived in Holiday Inns in 7 states in 9 months.

Just sayin' there is one helluva lot more work in "starting over and over" in the finding and enjoying of prime duck, dove and mushroom hunting spots locally. Never did find any quantity of morels in OH, but I knew some guys that did. Ducks were hard to come by but I finally had figured out how to frequently scratch a few mallets along a pasture creek, just a few miles of the house.

So a small success for me is enough, given the challenges. Progress is being made...
