Yesterday, a lone turkey vulture got a bit too close to the tall building where the Peregrines nest.
As lazy as those bastages always seem, they can pull some pretty slick moves if they really have to. I sure never saw one move like that, but I guess a little avian jart swooping down on yer ass would make you get pretty creative.
It was cool as hell to watch.

I once saw a redwing actually land on and ride (for a couple seconds) on the back of a red-railed Hawk. I was driving east on 36 outside of St. Joe some years ago when I saw that. It's surprising how aggressive they can be!

No way me brutha!
Peregrines are one high-powered projectile versus an obnoxious and harmless songbird.
Nothing rivals the speed of a Peregrine on this planet. 200 mph approx.

Saw the exact same thing at Winterstone Golf Course in Independence last summer. Looked a G-D jockey! BWAHAHAHAHA and yes i had been drankin'.. but it did happen.
Peregrines are forking amazing! Pretty cool to watch osprey fishing too.

There is a building across from our shop that seems to be a favored dining spot for the falcons.
Even if you can't see the killer, you can see the feathers flying in the breeze. I'm pretty sure nobody picks ducks on top of that bank.
I see the falcons every day. They are the chit.

200 mph is max dive speed. Nothing faster on the planet.
Omaha has had Petegrines nesting on the Woodmen Tower for 30+ yrs.
The population appears to have taken off as a result.of the urban opportunity.

Molly has been taking pictures of 4 of these little peregrines and their parents
Parents dive bomb any turkey vulture that even comes close to the nest site
Earlier this year, they chased an eagle all the way to Dresser Island from the nest site-- eagle had to hit the drink before they stopped trying to knock him out of the sky
Located on the bluffs just out of Alton and on the River Road
