Damndest Thing .........
      #246223 - 09/19/14 05:52 PM

I walked outside yesterday evening, just in time to see a Cooper's hawk buzzing the lawn and headed across the street. He piled into a small stand of saplings / brush in the neighbor's yard. I'm sure there were some birds in there.

Now there's nothing unusual about that, but what happened next was crazy !

About one second after the hawk disappeared into the brush, the neighbor's cat came out from behind a potted plant and dove in after it.

I stood there dumbfounded, waiting to see what happened next. Seconds went by, and NOTHING emerged ! I thought all hell was gonna break loose, and there was only silence.

I started walking across the street and saw the neighbor standing on his porch. I motioned for him to come around the side of his house.

We got closer, and the cat bounced out of the thicket. We got a bit closer, and the hawk flew out of the far side, still clutching it's kill.

It was one of the damndest things I've seen.

The neighbor could confirm this, if he chose to do so.

Sounds like the cat wasn't quite sure it was worth the fight, trying to take a kill from a hawk.

It turns out that the cat is declawed.

A cat's got to know his limitations.
