The USA Women's National Team won the Women's Soccer World's Cup

The game was a complete domination for the first 20-30 mins. I think the Japs were taken a little off-guard by the aggressive attack of Team USA. These matches usually have a little feeling out time and the players take some time to get a feel for the game. None of that for USA. It was an all out assault and the strategy paid off big!!
Should be a nice boost for Women's/Girl's soccer in the USA...
(What I wouldn't have given to hear one of the announcers say something like this at the 20 min mark, "These Japs have no idea what just hit them. It must feel like Hiroshima and Nagasaki all over again..."  )

Might have worked back when we were kids but in this day and age..............

I had to go pick up the stepson from his dad's at 6:00. When I got back back home, flipped on the tube and was like WTF?? when I saw 4 - 0!! The third goal by Carli Lloyd made the Japanese keeper look like an asshat. The US team continued to get better as the tourney went on. Very cool!

I ain't no sissy but I admit I got a little misty when we won...All that USA chanting and old Glory being paraded around made me very proud.
I believe it was the first soccer game I have ever watched and probably the last but it seemed that all week every sports channel had Aby Wambach specials and it piqued my interest. Found myself strangely aroused when she almost pulled her girlfriend out of the stands while swapping spit..

Good for the USA!!! Bummer though to hear the gals on the National Team are paid about 40 times less than the guys on the men's National Team. Something is wrong with that picture.

Why is something wrong with that? It's women's soccer. Other than the World Cup, people simply aren't going to pay to watch it. While I enjoy soccer and watch the Women's World Cup, for the most part the fans of womens soccer are the friends and family of the women. One of my own daughters played and I loved watching it because it was the right combination of me enjoying soccer and my kid in the games. Since she has stopped playing I have only watched games with friends or relatives involved ... and I like soccer!
Understand that the Women's World Cup is great drama and has a patriotic element to it. But also understand the level of play is, well, a women's level of play. A well coached U14 boys team would likely beat them and a boys U16 team would beat them by 10 or 20 goals. Try to watch a WNBA game and you'll understand why women don't get paid much to play soccer.
Now, if they would take a lesson from the volleyball gals and wear those suits to play, maybe...

Because both men and women are parts of NATIONAL TEAMS and the women just won the world title. The field's the same size (I believe) and the other teams they play are the best from that particular country. Say what you will, the women deserve a better rate of pay than they are getting.

They get paid based on what the people running it can get paid off it. The women don't bring in enough advertising and t-shirt sales, so they get less. Makes perfect sense to me.
Start taking off more shirts and the ad revenue will go up.
