Cafeoutdoors.com: FISHING FOR FREEDOM

I am now an official member of the committee that puts on a weekend long event for wounded warriors at Truman Lake over Columbus Day weekend. Included in the event is that each warrior gets taken out by a bass fisherman to fish in a bass tournament. This year the dates will be 10/5 – 10/8. The bass tourney will be held on Sunday 10/7. This event was started by, and is hosted by, the Leavenworth Bass Club. I have been named the Media Operations Officer. Can you tell most of the guys are current or ex-military by that title? The event, as many of you know, is called Fishing for Freedom and this will be our fourth year. I was a donor for the first couple years and last year went down and volunteered. I warn you if you volunteer you will want to do it again!

This event continues to grow and grow. Last year we had over 120 warriors participate and this year expect the number to be at least 150. We could end up being the largest single event of this kind in the United States! Warriors will come from all over the country for this event and we pay for all of their expenses from when they leave their home or base on Friday until they return back on Monday. Obviously to pull something like that off we are in need of money, donations, volunteers, etc. Every warrior will get goodie bags and brand new fishing equipment for the event. We love our business sponsors! We’d love your help in trying to help us recruit business’ and people to raise the money and get the goodies to stuff the bags to make this event the best it can be! If you know any business that would like to get involved in this very worthwhile cause, we’d love to have them! We will recognize all of the business’ who donate and help us with our event.

We'd also love to have a big crowd to cheer the warriors on Sunday afternoon at the weigh-in. Your help in publicizing even to get people to attend would certainly help! Leroy Shull ( a very good speaker)and/or I are available to speak to any group if you know of any who are interested.
