Porthole Barns
      #197396 - 12/18/09 07:50 AM

I was born & raised in Greene County, IL. Every year they have a barn tour as part of Greene County Days and there really are some cool ones out there. Here's a link to some of those that are particularly noteable due to their construction. The dude that build them was a ship builder for the Confederate Navy and when he moved to Rockbridge, IL, he rolled those skills over into barn building--portholes included.

Quite different!! Not sure I get it but they are certainly unique...

Did anyone see the episode of Dirty Jobs where the cow has a porthole in her stomach? Now that was cool...

There is a round barn NW of Bosworth.
I have always wanted to inspect it but I never wanted to bother the owner.
