That's because a doctor visit cost about $5 and prescriptions cost about $3. Yes, wages were about a buck an hour at that time so those charges were substantial - five hours and three hours work. Still, medical charges have gone up far more than inflation. The government getting into it has meant a massive transfer of tax money to private business - the medical industry. |
