Black duck and teal
|
|
Finally have the garage set up to do some carving here in OK. Took a while, but I'm finally able to throw some wood chips.
Black duck will be a classic smooth bodied bird. It's coming along nicely I think. Carved from basswood.
The teal bodies are carved from Western Red Cedar and the heads from basswood. They are hollowed out and have been put back together tonight. Paint starts soon.

More sanding and some more shaping on the neck area down to the breast.....plus smoothing out some of the flat spots. I like how its coming along so far. Already worked on shaving down the right check on the head to make it more symmetrical to the L side.
Teal are epoxied and waiting for final sanding.

Black duck is almost done. Still needs a little bit of sanding. Teal are sealed and waiting for paint. Going to be cold next week. I guess I'll see how dedicated I really am.

I didn't get anything done on the birds last week since I was home all week, and the birds were in Oklahoma. Working from home all week was nice. I had to sand down a layer of paint after it was sealed. I could still see the joint between the top and bottom piece. Sealed it again, and got the base paint back on it. It's a black duck, so I guess the paint might be done.

Paint complete. Time to scratch off the eyes, attach the leather strap and brass loop and ship it out.

Thanks Wu......Bird was shipped out to the Randolph Co. IL DU Chapter for their auction Saturday night. Curious to see who buys it and if it will be a gunning bird
