I know I will be chastized for this....

But...anyone have any experience with FMK? 9C1 G2 to be exact.

I know they are a cheap gun but just wondering. Opportunity knocks and I like the humpback grip feel.

Looks like a Glock clone-- made in California eh?

Don't buy and sell and buy/collect like some of the others here so I have to 'internet scout' on this

negative review video

This guy has an issue with them and their drop safety (you have to get past all the 'tactical training' 1st half of video but it is something you might want to check on

Yeah - I internet scouted on it and you can find whatever you look for on the internet...as you know.

Just like any of the other lower end....some rave reviews, some crap reviews and many middle of the road.

Probably won't do anything with it - just had the opportunity at a reasonable price.

Go to Summitt gun broker in Grain Valley and get a po po trade in Glock 17. Surprised that fmk is still in business.

Dean,

Nice idea but from what I read they don't sell directly - you pay them site unseen and do NIC's paperwork at a local pawn shop.

Not bad prices but would be nice to pick the one I want. Do you know differently?

Re: I know I will be chastized for this....

Okay - after doing some homework ended up getting a Kahr CW9 this go round.

Next item on the short order is a Glock 42... .380 pocket gun. Came across a deal I probably shouldn't pass on.

Then....the oldest has talked me into us both doing an AR build. Most probably either a Del-Ton or DPMS upper to start with...just a father/son build off kind of thing for fun. Considered .308 versus 5.56 but then looked at price difference in ammo. Don't think that will be happening.

I have been looking there. Any experience with JSE out of Cape? Have to pay taxes but they have some pretty good deals on mil spec DPMS chrome moly steel uppers complete with bolt carriers and charging handles that have been test fired for under $400 with shipping and tax.

one year warranty to fire American ammunition.

I bought some ammo cans and a single point sling from them at a gun show. The gal that runs the place is about as round as she is tall....so you have that in common.

Btw..set yours up to take a single point sling, usually an dealio that goes between the lower and buffer tube. Also, go to Brownells.com, the have and ar15 dream build app....cool and you see how crazy the prices can go. If you get a picatinny forearm, get the rubbr covers, damn things will tear you up.

Re: I know I will be chastized for this....

Well...I haven't settled on the upper yet.

Buying a lower stripped and lower kit as trigger assemblies seem pretty straight forward but buying a complete upper because I don't have to worry about headspacing that way...that does worry me if I tried pairing a barrel with a stripped I upper on my own.

I have decided on a flat top because I want to put optics with reticle crosshairs and flip up buis on it and don't want the A2 front post in the way.

But...can buy a brand new PSA complete upper with BCG and charging handle for under 3 bills from a guy who bought a couple a few weeks ago on one of their daily specials. Flat top is going to run $450.

Don't know if I want to save $150 and have to punch the A2 off the front and put a rail gas block on my first build. It pretty straight forward but is one more project I don't know if I want to mess with.

Should decide this weekend and start after that.

The most difficult part of replacing that A2 post is driving out the 1/16" roll pins. If you decide to do it, get a short punch. The longer ones (more than an inch long) have a tendency to bend before you drift the pin out. Been there, done that.

Re: I know I will be chastized for this....

For your first one, the a2 front sight won't matter even if you want to go with an optic like a red dot. Save the fancy chit for your next build. Once you build a .223, you will want a .22LR and a .450 Bushmasterbaiter. Legos for grown men they are.

Re: I know I will be chastized for this....

Okay...for better or worse...the order has been placed and the first "build" is more like the first "assembly".

went with a DPMS Oracle complete upper assembly. Rail gas block and I can put flip up buis on it if I decide I want them down the road. Under $400.00 to the door.

Going with a complete lower too. New Frontier poly lower. Not sure about the poly but Youtube abuse test videos, Lifetime Warranty and in conjunction with a local dealer showing me his after a couple thousand rounds through it has convinced me to give it a go. $119.00.

Also going with a 3x9x40 tactical scope with Green or Red multi brightness reticle illumination and built in laser off ebay. $63.50.

So, for right at $580.00 hopefully in a little over a week I will have the project complete.

What barrel length are you going to have?

Nice; if I ever get to do another upper, that's probably what I'll use, but it's not likely since I still can't even figure out why my AR pistol won't feed properly.

Dabs - If you do decide to go with a big bore upper, I would strongly suggest the .458 SOCOM.

The 450 Bushmaster is a good round, but it uses .452" bullets (same as a 45 ACP, therefore a pistol bullet) whereas the SOCOM uses true .458" diameter rifle bullets.

The Bushmaster requires a special magazine, but the SOCOM uses a standard 5.56/.223 AR mag with no modifications.

Yes, the Bushmaster is SAAMI approved and as of right now, the SOCOM is still pretty much considered a 'wildcat', but that will probably change this year, and when that happens, look for it to really take off.

Just something to think about if you get the EBR building bug.

Re: I know I will be chastized for this....

For some reason I have a hankerin for a .308 but we will see.
Already have a .22 and I am a bit disappointed at this point in the "build".

not going to be anything more than pull two pins...insert upper, replace two pins and add the optics to the top rail with two hand nuts.

I can see at least a lower build down the road...the head spacing worries me too much at this point on an upper build.

Picked up the lowers yesterday and optics and my upper should be in Thursday. Logans upper possibly Friday.

How expensive is the ammo for this here .458 SOCOM?

Re: I know I will be chastized for this....

If you can find factory ammo, it's going to run about $3 and up every time you squeeze the trigger. My handloads run between .60 and $1.25 a pop. This is one of those rifles that if you want to shoot it, you pretty much have to roll your own.

Re: I know I will be chastized for this....

Well - as I thought - this was disappointing as a build...about 30 seconds to put the upper on the lower and maybe 3 minutes to put the optics on.

But, the project is just about complete. Just need to wait for numero uno to get home for the weekend from AT. He picked up a couple hundred rounds and a few magazines down in Little Rock. Sadly, his upper didn't ship till today so it aint gonna be here.

Do your own research, but if you need optics you might look at Monstrum tactical - small company in California...seems to be a decent product at a real fair price.

The work will come in tricking it out with furnitue on the rest to match the pistol grip. That is the next project at time and rathole money allows. Also plan to add flip up BUIS as the optics have see through bases.

Re: I know I will be chastized for this....

Well...finally got a chance to break away fir a bit this afternoon to run a dew rounds through it. Just 40 rounds but got it close to zeroed in and it performed well.

When I do the next I will get a lower with a better trigger(not too bad but it is a little firm) and probably a 20" barrel.

I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer and didn't use any hearing protection. 4 hours later and my left ear is still ringing
