SBE Recoil remedy?

After last year's experience of barking off the skin and having a bone bruise on the left side of my middle finger, I needed a remedy. Used to be wear a shooting glove helped, but at ReelFoot there will be plenty of shooting I expect.

So I bought a Benelli counterweight that inserts into the button of my shotgun. Just need to go by the gunsmith to install as I don't have a deep-walled socket to do it.

So, will this help much? Anybody else tried one of these?

Thanks,

Re: SBE Recoil remedy?

I stopped hanging out with trap and skeet...and sporting clay shooters long ago and they were the ones adding the mercury reducers----I assume it is a mercury recoil reducer?

Most hunters go the easy route of adding a Limbsaver or such.

I know several folks that had the original SBE swapped out all sorts of parts to get them to shoot softer and not hang up especially those that shot 3.5 inch shells or super fast loads.

It sounds like you might have the gunsmith look at the trigger guard while he has it since that sounds like the real problem and your hand position is going to be the same regardless of any other factor.

Re: SBE Recoil remedy?

I installed the Benelli mercury-filled counter weight in the stock butt before I went hunting at Reelfoot this week.

This modification, combined with going to 3" shells, made a 100% improvement. I was able to shoot comfortably without gloves and no further pain in the middle finger from the trigger guard!

A heck of a lot more fun to shoot this trip. I do have a some 3 1/2" shells on hand, so I may give them another try.
