SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

I dont know much about track but I am told that PN north meet generally attracts a fairly competitive field..

That 4:27 puts him in the top 7 for the area....Looks like he has some close to home competition with the FOX runner.

IS he running the 3200 also?

Seems like these would be training runs for a triat...

At some Point, my princess will probably take his picture for yearbook!

congrats....

Re: SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

Yeah, he's doing well for a sophomore.....hasn't been beat this year in the mile. We're headed to Richmond, Va. tomorrow for a Jr. Elite cup race in triathlon, and then he has conference, district, sectionals, and state track.

I think he'll go right at 4:15 in the mile this year.

The kid from fox is a good guy.....he and Grif are friends.

Thanks

I ran three miles yesterday. Averaged about 10.5 mins per mile..

Keep encouraging the young man. If he has a passion for it and he's good at it, that is all you can ask for.

Pretty cool to see a kid go after track or a sport like wrestling. No glory as in the other sports and a whole lot of guts to compete individually.

Congrats to your boy! Good luck in Virginia.

Re: SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

Grif went 4:23 last weekend and posted the 13th fastest mile in the state this year. He has the 54th fastest mile in the country for 16 year olds according to the folks who track this stuff, out of over 60,000 entries. The run up to the state meet starts this weekend with districts.

He had a good triathlon in Richmond.....he's in the 16-19 Jr. Elite division and posted a 13th overall and 9th American as one of the youngest in the field. 1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike, 3 mile run in 57:58.

Hopefully he can make a decent run toward the state meet....only 16 kids in the state get to go from each class....he's running in 4A so the competition is tough for a sophomore.

Thanks for the good words....some day I'll think about killing a duck again, but for now my life is about supporting a kid's big dream.

So there is no truth to the rumor that you go to track meets to avoid dance and cheer recitals?

I thought you never killed a duck before.

Congrats to Griffin.

I said one day I'd think about it again.....I used to think about it all the time. I still think I can kill one some day. I mean, C'mon, look at the people on this board who have killed some.....how hard could it be?

I am willing to wager that there is a duck within 150 yards of your front door....and or a goose.. should the urge to kill one consume you.....

IIFID killed a duck this year.. I think that confirms your point....

Re: SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

You always told me, "One day, I'm going to kill a duck."

And then you said, "I can't have nothing".

And then y'all said, "The MDC is stopping me from killing ducks."

And then y'all had to go with the American goalie in Olympic Hockey, so I really figured, that you couldn't have anything.

It's a good thing we've all got good kids.

I don't want to talk about the savior....., I mean the back up goalie on the 4th place American Olympic hockey team. Geez.........what a joke.

Re: SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

Thanks Dan!

The District win was a big one for him but he's pretty nervous about his first sectional race. He's qualified in both the mile and two mile so we'll see how it goes for him.

Not easy for a sophomore to break into the 4A state race.

Re: SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

He had a rough mile....got boxed in and ended up 5th. Missed a state spot by one. His inexperience hurt him.

Came back with a gutsy 2 mile and ran 9:44 to qualify for state. Only kid to run the mile and 2 mile so he had to work for it on tired legs. I'm proud of the heart he showed.

We are old and slow.

Re: SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

Awesome deal. Bad deal on the mile, but he learned something. Knowing him, he won't let that happen again, but he'll box someone else in and talk chit the whole time that dude is in there. To run the 2 mile and qualify on tired legs is impressive. Being a triathlete....I'm sure it helped. Love it.

Yep.....he's young....he learned. I'm surprised him and 2 others didn't get disqualified. I don't know how you can have a fight while you are running.....but he does.

Re: SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

Dan knows......it's nerve racking as hell. Only 16 kids get to go to state in each event out of thousands.

I guess when you strip it all away it doesn't matter one way or another, but the kids work so hard you can't help but want it for them because you know how much they want it.

It's not like a team sport, those kids are out there on their own, and when they fail, it's just them....no pats on the back, no "good game"....just them left to deal with the fact that they didn't get it done. Pretty cool really.

Re: SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

My son's junior year, at sectionals, he was tripped in the mile and 800...he would have qualified in both events, except for being tripped. Same kid tripped him twice, my son had to be restrained at the finish line...work so hard and have it play out like that, well....it took awhile, but he learned a few lessons from that.

9:44 for the 2 miles is awesome, would probably get you 1st in state 1a, 2a...fastest my son ran it was 9:42 at State his senior year...Congrarts to Griff.

if you get a chance, go watch as much of the State meet that you can....you have to sit in the bleachers, and it gets crowded, sun block is a must, they used t let you bring in coolers....it is a pretty cool day to spend watching some outstanding athelets!

Re: SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

Welp.....if horrible races are what experience is made of for a young runner, little dude will likely end up at the Olympics.

I would call it a train wreck, but that would actually be a disservice to train wrecks.

A really good Sophomore season for him.....left with a bitter taste in his mouth. Down the road it will be a good thing, but it sure was hard for him to swallow now.

Thanks for the well wishes.....that track meet ain't for kids.

Re: SO GRIFF I see your favorite son in the paper again

Saw the results, it is tough on a kid to get there and be so close...but only 16 make it to that final race, and it is one hell of an accomplishment...Congrats to your son and the parents...

On a side note, former student from my school took first at State on the "HomeofToto" side last year in the 400....transferred to the Missouri side and took first in 3a in the 400...
