2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

......open camp today.

It's been a long time coming but hold on to your seat folks.

Yes, it's the toughest division in the nfl, and yes, we have the 2nd toughest schedule in the league, but yes, the Rams will somehow get into the coming post season.

We must split in our division and then win 7 of 10 outside. We must remain fairly healthy and have success running the football. Bradford will have his fourth year as his best and establish himself as a true #1 qb. Maybe not elite, but good enough.

Aside from round one G Robinson, for the first time in some time, this years 1-3 draft class will not be asked to carry full loads. Donald and Mason will be key, but not necessarily do or die. The Rams have finally achieved some depth.

Some say our receivers are sub par in the league, but if we get our ground game in order they will do fine. Maybe better. It's the secondary that is vulnerable, the soft under belly of this team. Maybe it's Joyner or Gaines or the STL kid Alexander that can pick them up but a few breaks there may be needed.

The pitcher is full. It's iced to the max. It's as blue as it can be. 10-6 Baby. 10-6.

After 3 days of camp........Robinson getting some reps at LOG AND LOT with the first team, Donald said to be unreal with his quickness, Fish says Quinn is "scary", Gaines with TWO picks in 11 on 11 and Kenny Britt sposedly looking good and doin the "leader" thing with the young receivers.

Somebody tell me how any team can double up one of our front four........pick your poison it won't matter......Now I might have ta do some more cypherin on the measly 10 win prediction........bwaaaaaaaaaaa.

Re: 2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

The "D" has the potential to be very good. They were good but sporadic last year and need to be more consistent. Flashes of great play won't win the Division or get you a WC birth. Let's hope Greg Williams is the key to getting this "D" over the top. Once he gets the cash for injuries program going here, they will be tough!!

The "D" will need to be top 5 in the league, if your 10 win prediction is going to come true. This offense is going to be mediocre at best. The running game has the potential to be decent, if everyone stays healthy, specifically Zack Stacy and the O-Line. I hope I am wrong and one or two of these receivers come into their own. But the way it looks right now, I don't see a single receiver that would be any higher than #3 on any other team's depth chart. Pettis, Austin, Givens, Quick???? Does anyone really think D-Coordinators are eating Tums while they try to figure out how to stop these guys?

If the Rams go 10-6, it will be with the lowest point totals ever recorded by a playoff team, on either side of the ball...

Re: 2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

The D is NOT likely to be "top 5" due to the shaky secondary. And we don't have to be top 5 to win 10.

But the front 7 will compensate and create a lot of problems for any offense we face.

As for our receivers, it comes together, finally, this year.
First off, the O line is the best it's been in many moons. Bradford will have his best protection and the receivers will have more time.

Secondly, that same line will provide the ground game to keep the opposing D's honest. The Rams have the backs and are going to run the football and work a lot of play action off of that.

Lastly, I was up at Rams Park yesterday watching their practice session and I can tell you that Quick is our #1 go to guy. He is ready. And Britt may be the other wide guy from what I saw. And yes, if you think teams are laughing these guys off along with a guy like Austin thrown in the mix then you need to put down the bong. Don't know if we have a true #1 or not....we might.....but once the run is established the passing game is going to be something totally different than what we have seen in the past from this very same group you claim is so unworthy.

Basically, the Rams are weeding out their problems, eliminating their weak spots and even STILL the youngest team in the league their guys are racking up valuable experience that is about to pay off. It's a team sport and they are getting there.

Playoff run this year is very possible... even playing in the West. 2015 on we'll be going deep.

Time for another glass. Hot dam it's refreshing! You want one?

Re: 2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

This whole season hinges on three things. Number one is universal to all teams: Injuries... If the Rams (or any team) get injuries to key players the chances go down exponentially. Number two is the receivers. If one or two of them can step up and become an impact player, this offense will have a chance. If not, teams will just load up the box, stuff the run and put any warm body on our mediocre receivers. Number three is the D-backs. Your post above reminded me how abysmal they were in the secondary. Hopefully Jenkins has matured enough to be an impact corner. It's the safety's that have me worried.

Let's not forget we have 6 games against our Division foes. One won the SB. One could have won the SB at 12-4. And one missed the playoffs with a 10-6 record. In short, a 3-3 record in our Division would be respectable, 4-2 would be good and 5-1 would be a miracle.

If they are going to make the playoffs, they better have it wrapped up before the last week. If they go into Seattle, needing a win to get it, the odds are not good...

1. Doesn't matter what receivers we have, or the amount of protection the o-line provides, Sam Bradford is terrible.
2. No running game that I can see.

1) And how would the invincible Tom Brady or Drew Brees do over the last 4 years on this same Rams team? In THIS division? How did Peyton look against Seattle last January?

It's a TEAM game more than any other. There's some questions that remain hanging around about Sam but imo "terrible" ain't one of them.

2)Zac Stacy with 900 yards in the final 12 games last year.
Can that qualify as a run game for him and the O line?

3) Love the Fish man. You just gotta love the Fish.

griffin, if you log on as Bubba one more time... We're discussing the Rams and Sam Bradford, not Blaine Gabbert.

Seriously, I am amused at Bradford haters. YA Tittle, Johnny Unitas, Bart Starr or Joe Montana would have been "below average" on this team, for the past 3-4 years. A below average line, below average receivers, one quality RB that was hurt half the time... Does anyone with half of a brain think that any QB in the history of the NFL could have succeeded with that cast around them? The dude has been Bulger-ized since he's been here.

Will be interesting to see how much playing time goes to Joyner on down in the draft class. Even Mason on down.

Couple of Mizzou guys plus the local kid Alexander included.

And I think TJ Moe is on the buble amongst this group of receivers but he'll get his chance.

ESPN reporting he's out for the year.

Can only assume at this point he will not be back as a Ram without a drastic remake of his contract and really the Rams cannot try to count on him again anyway.

Gut punched for the second year in a row. Wow. That be me.

It's Shaun Hill or Austin Davis or the rookie Gilbert from here on. Hill the likely starter in spite of Davis's big game last night.

Not sure what the hells gonna happen, this team finally had its act together and now it's all tossed up in the air.

Hope they don't do that. I guess.

I sure don't want a Sanchez or Vick or the other usual suspects that would cost us dearly in picks or trade.

Chase Daniel? My homer heart would go for that, but doubt the Squaws will go along.

Cousins? The Redskins would be complete fools to part with him.

We go with what we got, with the guy who knows the system and has proved himself pretty capable over the past 9 seasons. Hill knows the plays, somewhat familiar with the players and who knows....far stranger things have happened.

Or is it possible that Austin Davis has a little Genie in him?

The whole thing is a crap shoot but the team WAS ready to make a move and now the D has to pick them up and the RB's and receivers do too.

I ain't counting them out. That's forking right. And enough with the you know what...........

Re: 2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

There is a reason Hill has only thrown 16 passes in the last three seasons and has been a backup QB for more than a decade. This isn't the 5th grade community league. A career backup is who you don't want leading your team for an entire season. Maybe an unproven backup.......like Kurt Warner or Tom Brady or Aaron Rogers.......but not a career backup guy. There is a reason no one else has said dammit, We need to sign Shaun Hill. Dude can seriously play football. He is our starter, the man to lead us to a championship. Hasn't happened and I doubt will happen. STL better start looking to see who they can get and as quickly as possible.

Re: 2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

Well, then name who to go get.

Sanchez, Ryan, Vick? None of them are starters and they all have baggage. Ryan is now #3 on NE.

It's just not a good situation for St Louis. I agree, on the face of it, Hill doesn't appear to be up for the challenge. BUT when you scour the options, I'm not seeing anything better.

Hill knows Schott's offense and that's no small matter. It tips the scale big time for Hill. Players like him. Bring in another guy and you go dumb down for the first 6 weeks and even then it's forked up. No timing with the line or receivers.

Heard Mike Martz on the squawk box today. He said "Shaun Hill is the only guy I ever underestimated in my career. He should have started for us in Frisco."

He came into the league undrafted and like a lot of guys he's been unable to shake that label. When you look at his career he's found his game when asked quite a bit but somebody else always comes along and knocks him out. Alex Smith and Trent Dilfer come to mind.

IF Hill is capable and IF we get our ground game going and IF our receivers are where I think they are then IMO our best shot is to go with the guy who knows where the bathrooms are on Sept 7.

Fortunately or unfortunately that's Shaun Hill. With all the IF'S.

And Davis? You never know. He looked pretty darn good in Cleveland last weekend.

The Redskins would be dumb to get rid of Cousins, but management in that pisshole seem hellbent on using RGIII as their main man. Maybe the Rams can sneak Cousins away and not give up too much. Let Cousins learn the system as Hill and Davis keep the bleeding under control. See where it goes from there. The options are good either way you look at it.

last_stand

Re: 2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

Cousins would be one of the better options but like I said not likely available and definitely not avail for a fair price.

Redskins have already given the Rams an arm and a leg for RGlll and are not looking to do us any favors.

Rams are pretty much capped out so it has to be even money trade or draft picks. They would hate to do that for a guy who they really aren't sure of more so than what they already have.

Daniel, Cousins, Ponder....any of them would come in as the #2 and would only get their shot if Hill screws up. Pretty sure that's what Fish is thinking, and it's his job on the line. Guess we'll see soon enough.

Game 4 time for Hill and Davis and Gilbert will be interesting. Hill needs the work with the 1's but at the same time most of the 1's don't even play for the last pre season match.

Here's what he's done this pre season....yes it's preseason but the guy is capable:

Different ways for different fans.

He had a lot of detractors.

Great rookie year, very tough sophomore year with a team in shambles and then in 12 and 13 he had the high ankle sprain followed by the acl and now another acl.

If you look at it closely, he did very well every time the Rams had their starting O line in order and some semblance of a decent ground game. Unfortunately, that was no more than 50% of the last 4 years.

Reminds me of Bulger. Plenty of talent and almost no support. He will spend more time on his back and running for his life than making plays. Of course having something other than an average running game and below average receivers doesn't help.

I am guessing he will be injured or have a concussion within the next 4 weeks. This O-line seems to be hellbent on landing him in the hospital. Starting to wonder if Jake Long is not 100% recovered or just done... And shouldn't the #2 pick in the draft at least be getting some playing time, if not contributing full time...

What is the new over/under on wins? I'm thinking 3 or 4. Certainly they can find a team or two off their game enough to beat...

So who do the Rams pick in the 2015 NFL draft??? Running back maybe?? At this rate, not only do they miss the playoffs........buy they are looking at a possible top overall pick again.

Re: 2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

The penalties have been an ongoing affair with Fisher. He tolerates this play and it shows. It absolutely kills this teams chances week in week out.

Davis may be the best thing to happen all year. He's got a lot of great attributes for a qb, including putting the last play behind him good or bad.

I'm the proverbial homer, and I'm still waiting for the team I expected to show up. Fisher has got to at least try to get the penalties down and the mistakes to a normal nfl level to give this team a chance.

Keep dreamin'... If it were important to him, I think you would know that by year #3. It is pretty clear to me that it isn't important to him and his players know it isn't that important. I'm not sure if they lead the NFL in penalties or not. If not, they have to be close...

Overall, this team is just an embarrassment and the laughing stock of the NFL. How do you go so many years without drafting a single impact offensive weapon? I will admit, we now have a few RB's and receivers that could possibly make it to #2 or #3 on some other teams' depth charts. Doesn't that just make ya giddy?

Sitting here in Palm Springs, CA. Watched much of the game at the bar of a local eatery. Thankfully, I didn't speak to anyone and my identity as a St. Louis native remained my little secret. Of course the humiliation and embarrassment of being a Rams fan was still with me...

But hey, we're rebuilding and we got the best Head Coach out there in Jeff Fisher, right? It will be better next year, right? Starting to wonder about this 10 year rebuilding plan...

I never expect that with you. Like Cubs post season baseball, some things can never happen.

Re: 2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

Welp, it is finally over. The "2014 Playoff Bound Rams" showed us yet another losing season, topped off by a pathetic performance in Seattle yesterday. That was a pretty good representation of what the Fisher-era Rams are all about. But rather than complain about 2014, let's look ahead to 2015 and evaluate how they can keep this streak of losing seasons going:

First, keep the same coaches and front office that have shown absolutely no reason to believe they will draft or acquire any offensive weapons, get mistakes and penalties under control or create an atmosphere of winning football. Apparently, the strategy is to try to shutout every team and win 3-0 and 6-0. But hey, we're told players love playing for Fish'... So we got that going for us...

Second, make sure we don't have a QB that could even be the back-up on a good team. In a QB driven league, you can't keep a record of losing seasons if you have a decent QB that can carry you through some tough games. As it stands this should be easily accomplished. They have the option on the always-injured and now permanently knee-damaged Bradford. He is set to make about $600 million dollars again so you will have to release him and resign him. The problem with that is you can lower his salary but you will have to commit to 2,3 or 4 years. If you don't someone else will. Odds are good he is no longer a Ram. That leaves you with a draft pick in a particularly weak draft for QB's and/or trying to bring in a veteran that can do the job. The problem with the free agent veteran is that there are really none available that can take you to a winning season. In short, the Rams are screwed at QB next year, barring something unexpected happening... This alone is a pretty good start on another losing season. But there's more...

Third, make sure you leave giant, gaping holes in your offensive personnel. They need at least one top-tier WR, a TE that can actually catch the balls that hit him in the hands, about 2 O-linemen and a QB. With the most shrewd free agent moves and draft picks, the odds of filling all of these gaping holes are pretty slim. And based on the 3 year history we have with this group, I'd say they will be lucky to get it right on even one of them. Drafting guys like Austin and bringing in guys like Finnegan, Britt and Long give us a pretty good idea of how they will spend their top picks and use their premium dollars for free agents.

Fourth - Keep pretending guys like Janoris Jenkins are good enough to play for you. The defense is generally strong but the secondary gets exposed at least 2-3 times a game. By keeping guys like Jenkins and letting them try to cover premier receivers, you will certainly lose more games.

Finally, make sure the owner stays away from any commitment to keep the team in STL or even give small bits of information that he would like to and is trying to make that happen. This keeps fans from being fully committed and engaged, as they wonder from season to season if they will even have a team the next year. Kroenke is doing a fine job of helping to keep this a losing organization...

And that folks, is how you can keep this team a loser for 2015.

last stand - Feel free to point out the flaws in my evaluation. I know you are the optimist but even you have to see the difficulty in being upbeat about this team for 2015. I am particularly interested in hearing you take on the offense. Is there anything positive other than the emergence of Mason? How can they possibly solve the QB problem?

Re: 2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

I am waiting with anticipation...

The only thing I will add is this: While it seems contrary to my rant above, I do think this team needs to stick with Fisher at least a year or two more. As much I am clearly the most intelligent and knowledgeable person on this board, I can admit that Fisher probably knows a little more about football than me. A little. He may just have some plan that turns this disaster around. Clearly he is better than the last few coaches we had (sort of being the tallest midget or the smartest kid in the dumb class) and this team needs some stability. You can't switch coaches and GM's every year or two and expect success.

Here's how it can turn around. Bradford comes back and competes with a veteran QB and maybe even a rookie. Either the rookie or the veteran surprises us or Bradford stays healthy and plays up to his potential. Then they hit on a few draft picks and pick up a few FA's that can fill holes. As long as they make that O-line the #1 priority and a WR #2 they have a prayer. Not much hope of anything, if they can't build an offense that can score. Having a great defense in the NFL means holding teams to less than 15-20 points a game. What good is that if you can't score 15-20 points against good teams?

Re: 2014 Play Off Bound SAINT LOUIS RAMS.........

Back peddlin on Fish eh?

Saved me some time.

Lot's of stuff I wish he did different but he is good enough to keep and another coaching change right now would set this club back imo. He has 2 more years, let him stay and see if he can make the final adjustments this team needs.

Losing Bradford 2 weeks before the season started changed everything. Failing to have selected a viable future qb in last years draft compounded their troubles for them then and even worse for now. Last years choices were much better than this year. Rams have to make a move in this position because it looks like Sam is coming back with his glass knee in place.

1)Improve/draft for the OL at C and G. Sign Barksdale.

2)Sign/draft a viable qb to come in behind Bradford.

3)Fisher needs to change up a lot of ways he's been doing business. If he wants to keep Schott at the very least he needs to kick him in the azz and get a consistent offensive strategy in place that this unit will stick with. We ranked 28th in offense, seems to me more of the same won't cut it.

Get the offense going and some stronger messages from the coaching staff and yeah, I'm sticking with them next year as well. Pending what happens at QB, this team has the talent to win.

Now they need the smarts.
