I guess I will start the West/East Thread

My predictions -

New money takes 3 out of the 4 from the "Greatest Team in History"

Attendance numbers will favor the St. Louis stadium, but there will also be noticeably more Blue in the two games held in St. Louis than there will be Red in the two games held in KC.

Nobody will get shot from a grassy knoll at either stadium.

Royals will blow one game thanks to the bullpen and Matheny will blow one game on some bonehead management decision.

That about covers it.

At least you have a team you can predict.

My team is, until seen otherwise AND managed properly, a .500 team. If we ever actually bring up and field the best players who support its starting pitching, this might change.

Which brings up a simple request, if we can only win 1 game of the four, let it be the first one. We haven't made .500 in 6 attempts since June.

Dog,

I'll wager with you $100 the Royals win the series this week with Cards. If I win the bet, I want 5lb. of Sandhill crane steaks sent me via dry ice. Don't send any freezer-burned birds...

Otherwise no bet.

When I was a kid we had an old tractor tire in the backyard filled with sand to play in. It was next to the dog pen we kept our White German Shephard named Frosty in.

It was a big backyard compared to most these days.

Re: I guess I will start the West/East Thread

So let me get this straight.........I'm supposed to pack 5 pounds of
Sandhill crane meat into a box I have to buy or a smaller cooler,
With dry ice, drive it from BFE Texas to a shipping center so I can ship it overnight to God knows where in Nebraska. Overnight Shipping $100 minimum. Find dry ice in Amarillo and buy it. $20 Drive to Amarillo to ship the damn stuff $50. Smaller cooler for ice and meat. $15. Food and drinks in Amarillo's since I'm there. $50. I'm well over $200 before I scout fields for a couple days putting 2-300 miles on my truck finding them and then finding the X where I have to be. Ghuille suits for 5-6 guys hunting @ $70 each . $400/dz for decoys @ 3-5 dozen out.

5 pounds of breasts meat would mean 3-5 birds, so now we are talking two days of hunting, because I sure as fork know no one I hunt with is sharing their limit birds to send to some flatlander from Nebraska. My time spent cleaning 3-5 birds and preparing them to ship.......................................all for the chance of winning $100??????!!???!!?????!!??? My first question is, how damn high are you?? If I wanted to spend literally days of my time for $100, I'd go back in time to 1989 where I worked baling hay and I was getting to fingerbang and try to fork the farmers daughter before and after work. I knew I was getting forked for cheap labor, but I was making up for it in beardedclam trading.

Add another zero to your figure Homer. $1000 for the series win vs 5 pounds of crane. I'll even send some shitty red wine that Bailey picks out to Pair with the cranes. I'm gonna chill the chit out of that wine too, hoping it makes it taste worst than it is. So what say you big spender??? You get t o Piss away several days of my time for your bet or I get $1000.

Make up your damn mind. First we can't play. Then we can't win. Now we are going on a 20 game win streak because of Carp. Get on the bandwagon or get off. If you need help knowing how to do that, reach out to any of the west side bunch. They are quiet capable of showing you how to do it without getting hurt.

I realize you just have someone pay for your hunt, you get on a plane and go. Monty and the Wreckers get $300 day to hunt. Meisencunt is now $350/day. Why don't you just have you boss pony up the cash to go hunt them if you are needing crane meat so bad.

I know I'll go hunt cranes this fall for a few days and I'll keep all the meat.

A $100 bill from you doesn't even cover the cost of fuel to scout, let alone my time and effort..........my chance to skin ya. Your cheap ass wasn't even in the game to begin. Maybe if you said a quart bad of walleye or 1/2 gallon of crappie vs $100 you might have peaked my interest. A 2 day guided hunt to get your 5 pounds of meat will set you back$6-700 just in guide fees. Not including tips, hotel, food, license, and food...........which is how I came up with $1000. Obviously you didn't have faith in your team.

I was way too busy solo scuba diving yesterday and catching up with old friends to worry about your $100 bet. Maybe next year you can man up and have some faith in your team

Dude.......you forget from day to day which way you need to root. Did you wear your Carpenter Jersey to bed last night??

Re: I guess I will start the West/East Thread

I root one way, every day. I just do it with my eyes open. Has zero to do with giving up or walking away.

I seldom hate a player. They're all trying that I can see. If they got birds and a bat on their jersey, I'll pull for them to get back up but they need to held accountable. Carpenter, who I really like, should have been benched eons ago. For his own sake as well as the teams.

If this team had a solid manager, one who held his players accountable, one who recognizes when to bench and when to not depend upon, one who knows how to measure all his players with the same criteria.........including vets...we be on top, warts and all.

Basically, this team, far from perfect, needs to win without a good manager. That's how I see it.

Dog, the Royals are taking a beating by the Cards, no doubt....

Bein' the birdwatcher/duck hunter I am, I used to think shooting a crane as not an option. But over the last couple decades, their numbers have increased. So it's good, but I never expected that crane was such a succulent meal.

Ironically, the only time I ever had crane steak was at the last Fish and Fowl I flew back to from OH for the weekend.

The crane was provided, courteously by you, Dog. I was grateful then as much as I am now for that...

Perhaps we organize a hunt sometime. I'll pony up $ as needed, and keep you whole. I always do...

December and January is their summer. There won't be much to hunt. Everything will be in velvet but Tahr and Chamois. They will be in summer coats. Ducks, which is the only thing in NZ to have a season is closed. It won't open until April. How exactly does a person go to NZ........stay here for a good amount of time and NOT HUNT??? That's like going to the Playboy Mansion and not banging some hot chick. NZ has no Season for anything. No limits. You don't have to pack out the meat. It's a free forall on public land.

I don't go guided for cranes. Never have. I use a buddies decoys and ghuille suits or box blind. With access to 400,000+ acres of prime private land, I don't need an outfitter. I have certain guys I hunt with every year and the available spots are all full for Texas. They fill up a year plus in advance and most go back every year. My crane hunting is done by Mid Dec with the birds pushing south. January is for redfish/snook and pintails/redheads on the coast.........or awesome puddle duck hunting in the panhandle. Crane hunting for me is only 4-5 weeks at best.

Louisiana redfish and canvasback combo. Washington state layouts. Snake river hunting. Great salt lake airboat hunting. Platte River mallards.

Pull some stings for the hunt of a lifetime.

I sent a buddy to New Zealand to hunt with my guy. He killed a Tahr, red stag, fallow deer. Sitka deer, ducks, turkeys, and had a chance at a chamois. It cost him some Jet A for the chopper. That's a hunt of a lifetime for me. I've got that deal covered. I've killed bear, moose, caribou, every species of duck except one.

If it wasn't so exlusive everyone would be killing cranes and you wouldn't have been asking. Your money is no good like I said.

Re: I guess I will start the West/East Thread

Mac - it's funny you used the term "hunt of a lifetime". I've got a buddy who runs National class German Shorthairs. He told me that he heard there were a bunch of quail in Texas last year and wanted to get in on some of it. I called your nemesis and within a few weeks we were in Texas with him hunting quail on 60,000 acres of private ranch. We put up 82 coveys in about 12 hours of total hunting.....craziest chit I've ever seen. My buddy told me on the way home that was "a hunt of a lifetime".....and he's hunted quail for 40 years with some of the best dogs in the country. I'm just saying......you're so far out of your league on this one you'd be better off touting that minor league baseball team in that dump where you live as "a team for the ages".

BUT.......I'll say this, if I get one of my buds asking me where we could go to kill a bushel full of humming birds, I know who to call for "a hunt of a lifetime".
