ZOU basketball

Was nice to see a full house in the arena tonight. I have been to a few games in the last couple years where there probably was less than 500 people in attendance.

Hard to believe it might just have got turned around so quickly. Time will tell?

I believe the turn around part is a lock.

The talent is there, a pretty smart hard nosed coach is there. Let's see if they can put it all together.

I taped the game and watched it late. Haven't done that for years. Def looking forward to better days ahead.

Can any of them play football?

Yep - wondering what affect that will have in his draft status? Maybe extend his college play another year?

Re: ZOU basketball

I'm hearing from all types of sources he'll never play college ball. Even heard one dude say he may never play again period.

I guess coming off this injury he would pretty much have to sign for the money not knowing if he would get re-injured if he stuck with Mizzou.

Unreal how this went down. I still haven't heard how or when or exactly what got injured.

Re: ZOU basketball

I agree edster but I don’t know it will happen. They tried to lay down in he last 5 again but managed to finally hold on for one.

If you could erase the WV loss when they were 16 with 7 minutes to go....the loss to Illinois and the last 30 second loss to MA and company they would probably be a top 15 team. Have made big strides in a few short months.

Re: ZOU basketball

I know they are gun shy after a few games with some very questionable foul calls.....but until this team can establish an inside game they aren't close to a top 15. So far they have not been able to get that done....not on the offensive side.

Without question the program is on a much better track than I've seen in years, they have quite a bit of work to do. I was excited to be at the Illinois game and see them in person....and I ended up wanting my money back....they were not good.....and the young Porter looked lost as a bastard cat.

Losses like yesterday will KILL them when tourney invitation/seeding time comes.

***MPJ dressing out today for SEC tourny game.***

Really don't have any idea what to expect??? Two points or 20 ??? Is he going to play with the current flow of the team or team going to play with him as focal point ???

Whatever happens hope there is some positive impact with him in game.

Re: ZOU basketball

All good questions, I'm sure many are hoping for the stars to align.

He was seen a week ago making 15 three pointers in a row at a practice.

He'll play 20 min or maybe more. Pretty hard to step in and be highly effective with zero chemistry or experience with his team in hand.

I hope we see the best it can be, just not sure what that is.

MJP ain't shy that's for sure! Twice as many shots as anyone else on the team. 29% from the field is very rusty!

Not what I hoped for, but I'm glad M. Porter got a game in before the dance.

They're not going to have an easy road as a probable 9 seed, but I bet nobody is looking forward to playing them.

Re: ZOU basketball

I saw a good part of it.

And then I saw the final 30 seconds of questionable moves to confirm it.

And now another infamous DWI brought to you straight from Columbia Missouri.

I will say one thing, Martin is just starting what I hope to be a long run, and things are even still looking up for Tiger basketball.

Re: ZOU basketball

An 8 seed.

It would not surprise me to see them go deep into the bracket, but it also would not surprise me to see them go out in the first game.

I have to agree, for the most part, with Bailey on the inside game. Most of the game they don't have a problem making a decent screen then cutting to the goal and getting fed the ball for what should be a give me.

But....especially in the last minute of game, that goes out the window. I think they have lost three or four games where they were down by one point or two points and instead of forcing the ball down the throats of the opponent and - 1) scoring the layup to win the game, or...
2) drawing the foul and going to line to win the game

Hopefully they can improve on closing those games out for next years season. If they can do that, then I think they are a top 20 next year. Maybe not a top 10 but at an easy top 20, and what we have had the last number of seasons, I think that is a great two year turnaround for Quonzo and staff.

Re: ZOU basketball

I wish the Tigers well but have low expectations. They are offensively challenged only averaging 73 points per game with more turnovers than steals (ranking 243 in Div 1.) They don't shoot the ball particularly well from the field. They didn't have much depth with transfers and then losing Van Leer so the DWI to Barnett hurts even more. In Florida State they are playing a deep team from a better conference who averages ten more points per game. I hope (but don't believe) that Porter will make a significant difference.

Re: ZOU basketball

If they are not hitting their 3's it's pretty much going to be over unless their D is outstanding.

Can't wait for a solid point man next year.

On edit, Porter could certainly throw it all out the window if he comes back and plays really well.

Younger Porter is coming back to ZOU. He isn’t ready at all not even close. He needs 2 more years. Tillman will be the deal in 2 more seasons. Michael Porter Jr I’d say is 60/40 on staying. He didn’t get to play with his brother in college like he wanted Top 5 pick........I don’t think so. He isn’t Right and you can only go off his HS stuff. I think he stays. He needs more time. His family has money and they can get an insurance policy for a career ending injury

Re: ZOU basketball

NBA Mock Draft has MPJ coming in at #7 and going to Portland. Comment from the scouts say this ranking pending a review of medical reports and the fact that they have seen his potential from his HS tapes.
There was not any mention of young brother.
...just sayin what I read

If he remains in top 10 and chooses to stay I'll be shocked. He strike me as a great kid, I guess there's that chance.

Hope the Tigers can land Ramey. A huge missing piece of the puzzle.

It's kinda like what Marsellus told Butch in "Pulp Fiction".....

"there is no you and me".

There never was a Michael Porter Jr. era at Mizzou
