Sorry.....US Open

We have been to Indian Wells several times, and watched the sisters twice. Early in their careers, both sisters were pulled from Indian Wells, by their Dad, as he thought there some slurs tossed at them by fans. Yes, tennis fans can be just as mouthy, as any. They only recently returned to playing in Indian Wells.

As awesome as the sisters are: In 2017, in the ladies finals Venus and her opponent didn't have any control over the ball, it was just like a grudge match. That wasn't so in 2018, when I watched her play against a Russian. Both of them could slow the ball down, and place it where they wanted it to go. Several times Venus would just back out of her serve, if she wasn't feeling it was right too. The Russian girl just didn't make any unforced errors.

Serena is still one of the most tested athletes in sport for doping, but age has its way with all.

Only a Canadian girl apologises to an audience for their intimidating noise, for beating a woman twice her age. It is a sign of respect.

Bianca is mentally strong, and just a little powerhouse.

It was an ass whooping.

Did you see when Osaka beat Coco Gauff and kept her on the court for the interview? Class act there.

Andreescu played her opponent well in every match and deserved the win. Hopefully she uses part of her winnings to get her mom’s hair thinned out

And don’t apologize, the closet is a dark place to hide.

You know you're near the end of your rope when you use women's hair and coco in the same post......I'm sorry, you had a good run.

Is that what this is about?

I thought it was about a little girl winning lawn ping pong over the man in a dress .

It is, about HER. That and playing in front of an international audience. They come from every corner of the earth, for two weeks to watch this stuff, like any other international sports fans.

The sound just resonates in that bowl. It's loud, real loud on the day of the finals.

I’m in, damnit!!!!

Men’s tennis bores me - 4 to 5 hours for a match.

There are some talented athletes coming up through the system in women’s tennis right now.

My goal is to post a picture in a few months of myself and Susie standing next to the trophy.

Fork all you haters - Blame Overstreet, he started it years ago with the women’s college softball World Series

Where have I been? Here's a social media post from the 2016 BNP Paribas Open.

----------------------------

If you build it, they will come. Some 260,000 people will have passed through these gates in these two weeks, and yet Indian Wells is still not a major tournament. We are rookies at this. I had my doubt's about taking my husband, who previously had no interest at all. Now he's asking for scores, rankings and orders of play. And too, there are many people, like our neighbor, who will purchase a general admission ticket for tomorrow's finals, sit in a lawn chair on the grassed courtyard outside of the stadium to watch the finals on the big screen , just to say that they were there.

-------------------------

The stadiums are less than 5 miles from our home. We hop a cab, eat at one of the great restaurants on the grounds, have a few cold drinks, and cab it home.

Common sense? There are days during the tournament when you can attend for free. We've done that too! The lighting on the grounds light up the desert sky for two weeks. The the tennis gardens, a spare block of land where he plans another support hotel for the grounds and the entire tournament is the brainchild of Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle Systems. There was a concert on the grounds this year with Buddy Guy and Lucas Nelson and The Promise of the Real. My husband and I didn't go, because we, like everyone else budget our entertainment dollars.

This tournament is the site of Bianca's first big win, earlier this year.

Like all advance tournament/playoff tickets, you never know who will be playing on the date of your ticket, but you CAN easily by general admission tickets and watch them practice or play their early rounds.

Common sense.

For the second year in a row, the winner of the BNP Paribas, went on to win the U.S. Open.

What I see, isn't a major, but it is a good gauge of how well a player will perform, during the coming season.

Re: Sorry.....US Open

The simple truth....my brain is not that big. If I let women's tennis in (for chrissakes) then something has to be deleted to make room. I'm old enough that I've already deleted all the crap I don't give a rats arse about.....no point in cluttering it up with more.

Re: Sorry.....US Open

Her parents moved here in the 90's from Romania, to build a better life, before she was born. They arrived here with one suitcase of clothes, and a frying pan. In their short time here, I think they did just that.

It's a real success story.

Yes. He came over with his second cousin as a stowaway on a shrimp boat. His name then was Oshmananov, but he shortened it to fit in better with Canadians who have trouble with 4 syllables.

AN-DRE-ES-CU

The other photo is of Raonic. He is from MON-TEN-EG-RO.

I too, prefer the men's games, for their speed and volleys, but at Indian Wells, both the men and women play their final matches on the same day.

Then, there is this guy, who runs charity games at Indian Wells. And, for certain we will go, if I ever hear that Agassi will be attending to play against him.

I don't really know why I started playing as a kid, but I grew up in Queens, New York, not too far from Forest Hills, where they played the U.S. Open in those days. I even got to be a ball boy there. Also, there was a tennis court just a block away from our house, and I'd hang out down there.

The tournament does give back to the community.

I can't get past the grunting.

Is she a grunter?

How do you grunt like it's the last utterance of your life and then proceed to do it 238 more times in a session?

What meaning does that grunt have MB??? Isn't this bad for the game?

Re: Sorry.....US Open

lol

I never really thought much of it, but I guess it's their way of releasing their breath as they get behind their shot.

The ladies play first on finals day at Indian Wells, and sometimes their matches last over 4 1/2 hours in 100 degree weather.

That's when we go outside to the courtyard, sit under at tree and watch on the big screens, until the men began play.

You can forget many things, but sunscreen isn't one of them!

--------

A couple of years back, I was watching a 17 y.o. American kid
consistently serve at 145 mph. He was tall, and gangly, but still didn't have a man's physique. It's pretty amazing what these kids are capable of.

Now, both my husband and I are getting congratulatory messages on her championship, from neighbors down there who know that we go.

NBA Championship - check
US Open Championship - check

We'd trade them both for the Stanley Cup though.

------------

If you really want to know who bets too heavily on this, the golf tournament, the music festivals, and a multitude of other happenings down there, it is far too many of our neighbors. They buy these houses down there, and mortgage them to the hilt, hire a property manager, just so they can lease them out to strangers. They stake a house they can't afford on these things, and their already mortgaged house in their home town.

We have friends who rent their's out during tennis, to people from Switzerland who are Federer fans. When Federer retires, those renters won't be back. When the economy goes sour, there will be no renters, and everyone will sell these houses first.

It's as though they forgot what happened only 10 years ago.....that, right there is crazy!

My husband and I are neither. We first went there when it was booming, at the very worst time it was empty, and now it's up to full capacity again....

We have a lot of people, who we consider friends, that have set themselves up for a long fall, at a time in their lives when they can't afford to lose.

Live simply,,,,,

It is California.......I would expect nothing less

I love California—northern CA is spectacular but there is a reason they get the Land of The Fruits and Nuts monicker

While the state of Washington is trying to take over the title of most crazy state in America......they still have a way to go to pull ahead of the People’s Democratic Republic of California.

Fools and their money are soon parted......the way it was,is and will be

Common sense.

I never did forget, why I bought a place for my husband and I there, to live simply.

My parents are ageing too. They have been winter residents in California for more than 45 years. I can get to them damn quick, when I'm needed.

Every year, I spend more and more time, at their home California, and at their home here.

That's the reality of having ageing parents. It's what a good daughter does. It isn't about cars at all.

Meantime, almost everything we attend and volunteer for in the desert is attached to one charity, or another. From wounded vets to kids, because we are thankful for all we have. I also go to our friend from O.C. son's lacrosse tournaments.

Here's the Patrick Warburton Golf Tournament Jam, we attended in 2016. for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
