St. Louis bound
      #263342 - 03/27/25 03:40 PM

I'm heading to the big city this coming weekend, for the first time in a few years.. son's team is playing up around creve couer area (he'll be watching due to a tore hamstring)

anyway, on my list of to-do's was to find out what the dullard status was..

i don't want to roll into the big town unprepared and all.

What do you seek ? Do you mean the actual city ? It sounds like you'll be out in the mo. river bottoms, that ain't nowhere near the madness.

Yesterday, for whatever reason, that word popped into my head and I ain't heard it nor said it in years.

Then I remembered where I heard it last, so I came on here to use it again..

80 degrees there today - I’m betting you could find 1,000 ticks and 1,000 friends in the river bottoms looking for some fungus.

mike,

this is my youngest son and he's 16.

he's a junior in high school. running track and playing soccer (when he ain't hurt).
we were up your way for soccer.

saw a few dullards on the roads, but they're everywhere. mostly illinois and arkansas plates.

we missed the weather. played at 2pm saturday and 9am sunday.

dabs, no ticks on the trip and no fungus, but did smell some burning devil's lettuce in the hotel though.
must be a sh*tload of glaucoma in the big cities cause that's the only place i ever smell it..??

He's in the off-season for soccer right now, as the high school plays in the fall, so he's currently running track for the school.
He's got a decent chance of playing soccer in college, so he's been playing soccer (indoor) this winter and his club team had their first games outside this past weekend.

They've been very good in the past. I'm not a soccer guy and I don't know/understand the various levels of these soccer tournaments, so I don't know how competitive of a level they've been playing, but a couple years ago, they played in a league in KC and went undefeated and they've won numerous tournaments in KC & Springfield.

He pretty much plays winger/wingback outdoors.

I tell everyone that I enjoy watching them play because I have no idea if they're playing like crap or not. If it was baseball, I would know who's not doing their job and getting pissed off..

What's he run? What school? What meet were you at? I missed this or I would have come say hello. I enjoy watching the kids run.

we were in StL for soccer, so no worries. I appreciate it though.

he's double-dipping this spring, so he's running track for the high school and playing soccer for a local club.

the past couple of yrs, he's ran 400 & 800, open & relays and he attends school at Neosho.

this yr, the coach was going to run him at 1600, 800 and 4x400, but he "popped" his hamstring at track practice a couple of weeks ago and hasn't been doing anything. he's handling it as good as you can, but he's antsy to get back at it as he's missed a soccer tournament and two meets.

his older sister runs track up in boston at a D3 school. She's been down all winter/spring with a mildly displaced disc in her lower back, so the both of them have been out of commission... it sucks!!

Injuries and illness defines a running career as much as fast times. It's part of it. Grif was 3rd in State in the 800 his Jr. year and the favorite to win state his Sr. year. He had ran the 3rd fastest 800 time in the country, in his Sr. track season, when he went down with Mono. Done.

It serves them well down the road....they learn what it takes to be successful, and how easy it is to lose it.

That young man will be a Capt. in the Marine Corps in 4 months....he'll be out in less than a year...he has a great future lined up. Most of his success can be directly tied to picking his own arse up after he fell time and again in athletics.....you can't teach them that.

Hopefully your kiddos can get heathy in time for the big meets.

Damn Scott, make me feel ancient. I still find it hard to believe that the minnow eatin, beer fetchin kid is going become a Captain in the Marines. I still have some pictures from hid punk ass days.
I agree that the sports made him tougher, but his mean little sister did as well.

What a proud time for all of you.

Congrats and many thanks to the young man!

As I've gotten older, I've realized one of the best accomplishments to measure a person, is what kind of kids did they raise.

That royally and totally sucks about his senior yr. Gee whiz, what a gut punch. Adversity is one of the greatest teachers there is, in life. Regret can be a great motivator too.

Appreciate the well wishes. Daughter is done for the year and the youngest ran 800 last night in JV meet to see how it felt. Coach just wants him ready for EOY meets, specifically 4x400. They broke a 57 y/o school record last yr in 4x4 and have been district & sectional champs in it the past couple of yrs (or at least qualified for state). We're one of the smallest class 5 schools, so it's a grind to compete with the big ones.

You and your kids have inspired me....I think I'll catch a District or Sectional HS track meet this Spring. I think they're great events. I'm still a track and field fan. I watch every big meet that's televised.

I hope your son heals well...what school again?

As a parent, I hated track and field!!

When your kid does disc and shot put it is usually right smack dab in the center of everything else.

You are trying to get to that event and there are starting guns going off all over the place….everytime you try and cross a track here comes a bunch of kids running their arse off and people are yelling at you to get out of the way….its just too damn much.

I’m out!!!

Thanks!
He's in Neosho, sw corner of MO.
He ran the 800 in Waynesville last friday for his first varsity meet to see how it felt. Said it felt good, but he also said he didn't think he'd get in good enough shape to make the relay team this yr. We'll see.
Conference championships are next week with districts the 17th and sectionals the weekend after.

Speaking of big events, my daughter gets to train & run a couple indoor events at the New Balance arena in Boston. Banked curves was a first for me. Pretty cool.
