i guess folks all over the state have been finding em already, but i found three dinks yesterday on my place.
it's 25° here this morning, so that won't help, but we got 5" of needed rain and it's going to warm up this week, so the yellas should be coming along soon, too.

I had a few minutes yesterday so I stopped at one of the County Parks and tried to find a South hill that got sun there were no vehicles close to. Spent about 30 minutes and came up empty....some good looking area though and it is damp enough if we get this 75 to 80 degree weather Thursday and Friday they should be popping.

The peaches are clean!!!!
Funny thing is I haven't seen a tick all Spring. One of the neighbors asked me if I had been picking a lot of ticks. His dad went fishing at our subdivision lake one day last week and said he picked 16 ticks off of himself when he got home. I have been down there just about every other day for the last month and haven't found a one. And....no slithery belly crawlers either
The woods should get good around here in the next day or so....57 for the low last night and in the 70's the next four or five days. Might have to sneak out another time or two.
I cleaned 12 crappie last night and Bryce said he is going to look for rooms after work this afternoon. I told him if he finds any I would be happy to cook them with fish for supper tonight...we shall see how that works out.

dabbler1,
after talking to you last week, i went and looked and didn't find anything thursday night.
found 4 yellas this weekend, in between storms, so they popped up pretty quickly.
(deer have been rough on em)
oh yeah!! If you end up not finding any more, send them crappie fillays down south. I'd hate for them to go to waste..

I have reloaded on tick spray and warshed my pants after the slithery "event" - so I might be brave enough to give it another go this afternoon. Or...I might just drive to town and spend $50 on a pound at one of the 50/11 roadside stands. The tweekers in these here parts will do anything for a fix
My poison ivy aint healed up yet!!

I feel for ya
I hates me some poison ivy...and unlike Kurt....Mr NoNeck isn't somebody I want to say Howdy to when I am out and about.
$50 dollars a pound eh? Wonder what that translates to per hour of wandering around.

I was super sensative to poison ivy as a kid - if I got within 20 ft of the stuff I would break out like crazy. My great uncle worked for MODOT and he would get me these little viles every year the State provided them...it was like a series of three little viles of yellow liquid...you drank it and surprisingly it worked well. I hate to think what it actually was as there wasn't much regulation back in the late 60's early 70's.
As for Mr. no shoulders, lets just say Kurt would be proud of me. It was about a 4' long Black snake and I saw it just laying in the sun about 10 ft in front of me. I didn't wet myself, cuss or scream. I actually got a little closer to it with the intent of making snake stew, but I ended up having a casual conversation with it for a minute and went about my way.
Tweekers don't sleep...so if you see a flashlight shining in the woods at night this time of year - chances are it is Cracky McSmacky trying to make a buck
