What's in the Fridge?
      #104672 - 07/12/07 06:51 PM

It's about quittin' time, and I'm thirsty.
This got me wondering what everybody's stocked up on.
If you were to show up at the house tonight, I could offer you a Bud (can or bottle), a Rolling Rock bottle, or a Red Hook SummerRye. There might even be a Boulevard Pale Ale in the little fridge downstairs.
Whatchoo got?

That would be my alcohol-dedicated garage refrigerator. I got most of a case of Coors (original, not light) for lawn-mowing beer. I got Sam Adams Boston Lager, Boston Ale, Hefeweisen, Cherry Wheat, Pale Ale, and Summer Ale.

I got about 3 gallons left of 3 y.o. homebrewed India Pale Ale on tap. I got a bottle of Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey (which I prefer to Jameson's or Bushmill's).

The wife's got a bag-in-a-box of Franzia "Chillable Red" wine, which I actually think is pretty good. Nobody ever said we have good taste.

So come on by, Forsythian - I've got refreshments. We can talk about how upper Bull Shoals has turned into a carp hole.

well Forsythian, I could offer some Anchor Steam, some Henry Weinhard assortments, some Coors banquet beer, a couple of assorted porters, some bourbon, some single malt scotch in the freezer, some Bacardi rum, some Capt. Morgan spiced rum, some Bud, some Red Stripe, some Guinness and some Snake River Lager, or a Coke and some milk, I might even have a few assorted fruit juices

Come on over, I've got just about every flavor of AB brew made and not-yet-made, a couple different homebrews and Anchor Liberty Ale. Liberty, have you tried that one yet--dayum it's a good brew. A balance of amber malt and some notable hop action! Forsythian, if you can get your hands on this one at the Brown Derby, it's well worth a try!

As a reformed and recovering Californian, I'm real familiar with Anchor products. Anchor Steam Beer, Liberty Ale, Anchor Porter, Summer Beer, their annual Christmas Beer - it's all good if you like HOPS.

But the creme de la creme is still Anchor Old Foghorn Barleywine.

I'm with ya DjF... It's about 20 miles for me to get any kind of variety (outside of Boulevard brews)...

BUT- I'm telling you that Rolling Rock is a very decent mass-produced beer.

Ozark, it turns out I'm not much of a wheat guy anymore... but the pale ales sound real good! I'm gonna drop in on ya one of these days. You anywhere near the SuperCenter? I noticed they carry my Urquell Pilsner.

Right know...some Pabst Blue Ribbon, some kind of unfiltered wheat beer that my wife likes (dont remember the brand) and some Stella Artois. Had a couple Odell offerings the other day and they were good.

"I ain't got a decent Liquor store within 20 miles of my house...I am envious!!!"--DjF

well I don't know if it contributes to my health much, but I live behind a well stocked, upper end liquor store, across and down from a brewery, two doors from a bar/pizzeria and caddy corner to that another full-service bar and a well supplied grocery store is on the next block over. Don't think I'll ever run out. And if I do have to run out for supplies, the truck is only needed for when I buy bulk.

Tanqueray martini and ground control to Mjr. Tom, come in Mjr. Tom?

They still sequester juries? Damn, that hit the taxpayers a lick. Whose idea was that, yours?

3rd time around for this jerk. We didn't know it at the time -- we thought we were the first to hear the case and that there was only 1 murder. It was an interesting week. Holed up in a hotel room with zero contact to the outside world. My damn room didn't even have an alarm clock.

That must have been quite an experience for you, P.D.

So, they've been fartin' around with this guy through 4 or 5 trials for how many years now? And, he's been sentenced to death 4 times now but the high court threw two of those out?

The U.S. has far more lawyers per capita than any other country in the world, in spite of the fact that less than 3% of the population ever gets arrested for a felony.

That means the small criminal part of the population is a valuable commodity for the criminal "justice" system. They HAVE to keep cycling those same people through the system over and over again - because every time they cycle through lawyers make money, lots of it.

IF this guy finally gets executed, it'll be a couple of decades from now after who-knows how many more briefs and appeals. Lawyers will get paid $150-$250 an hour of tax money for all of it.

I didn't mean to get into this rant on the Brewing forum, so I'll just have a beer and forget about it now.

Sorry to bring it up on the "What's in the Fridge" thread. Trying to make sense of it all requires alcohol, so I thought it belonged here.

Yes, Oz, you are right. The cost is mind boggling -- an industry unto itself. This guy is getting 4 trials when it is all said and done. One of the defenses' key arguments was the guys childhood -- no doubt, it was messed up, but I listened carefully and kept an open mind. So they called to the stand a childhood development expert, Dr. Wanda Draper who has been on CNN, Oprah, written books, etc. She's not even a real MD. She makes $125/hr plus expenses just going to various capital murder trials in several states to do "consultation work", give testimony, and try to explain a murderers' behavior. Not condone it, but to "explain" it. On this case alone, she has made over $6,000 and counting, for what amounts to a couple days work. And she's done HUNDREDS of cases like it in the past few years in our state and others, all on the taxpayers dime. I'm sure her card is in many public defenders rolodex. If you don't have a defense -- call Dr. Draper! Under cross examination, the prosecuting attorney had a field day with her, reduced her testimony to a pile of rubble. Kinda felt sorry for her.

Ken - yep, being sequestered did suck. But they fed us pretty good. I think I gained 10 lbs.
