No I haven't. Lukas had their usual keg selection so I wanted to try something new and remembered you had said something about their beers being good. You were right.

I found some of that Minner Pond brew in bottles and after comsuming a few while doing the lawn chores I did not fall off of the lawnmower, so it must have been a good day.

After a long spell of Budweiser and Natural Light, I reverted back to some quality. Last night I picked up the following:

Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock
Old Rasputin Imperial Russian Stout
And some German lager I forgot the name of.

Muggs - Is there still a little plastic goat hanging on the neck of each bottle of Celebrator?

I had a friend in college who had about 20 of those goats hung from his rear view mirror. I told him that was kinda dumb, but he said "whoever heard of a cop who knows enough about good beer to know what those are?".

He had a point, there.

Yup. They still got the goats. They would make a nice white trash Christmas tree ornament.

lookey there -- correct glassware for the beer style, too!

jealous of that view and your beer selection

Spent a few hrs at Avery Brewing in Boulder last night. Been here a bunch before. They continue to amaze with their beer. If you want some of the best, big alcohol beer in the country, Avery is the place.

Some of the highlights:

Uncle Jacob's Stout -- Stout that tasted like straight up chocolate and alcohol. Reminded me of those little chocolate candies with the liquor in the middle. Said it was aged 6 months in a Makers Mark barrel. 17% ABV

Bad Apple -- Sour belgian pale ale the spent 12 months in oak barrels with Granny Smith apples added the last 6 months 6% abv

Eremita IV -- light blonde ale sour spiked with blueberry & juniper that spent 3 yrs in neutral barrels. This one was mild and had a distinct white oak flavor. 9% abv

Chinook Wet-Hopped Pale Ale -- They picked Chinook hops in Niwot Colorado, flew them to the brewery and had a batch in the kettle waiting to go.. 5.7% abv

And to cap it off, my bro-in-law threw down $34 for a 12oz bottle of stout called Margarete. Who the fork throws down $34 for a 12oz bottle?? We do!!
Prolly the most complex and amazing beer I've ever tasted.

Imperial stout brewed with Turbinado sugar & sour cherries. Aged in Buffalo Trace barrels. This was an experiemental batch in 2009 or 2010. The only bottled 89 cases in Jan 2011 and now have 7 bottles left.
Smooth, sweet, thick stout. Flavors of chocolate, cherries, toffee, nuts and raisins. We spent an hour drinking this big one. 15.43% abv.
Not sure if they have it online, but they might have a list of these "vintage" beers. It's called the Captain's List and all of these beers must be drank on premise (??) Some of the beers on the list are nearly 10 yrs old. We let our bartender try a shot cause he said he'd never tried it. He literally freaked out.

We also bought two bottles of their limited release Imperial pumpkin ale called Rumpkin. Pumpkin ale aged in Rum barrels.. 18.9% abv!!! (Haven't drank these yet)

It's been a good start to the trip...

2013 inventory:

couple months ago i brewed a winter beer. biggest one i've ever brewed. i took my 6.5% abv smoked porter recipe and bumped it up to over 10%. all grains too, no sugar or extract to elevate it. Maxed out my mash/lauter tun as it required 25# of grains to hit that mark.
It's been kegged and aging. It ended up at 10.2% and it's good. I was expecting some alcohol bite at first, but the blend of grains was just right.

I've got 5 gal of it that I've been sipping on. I like to blend in some of my pumpkin ale with it. Makes a real nice evening beer.

The rest:

half a case of Banquet

5 gal of 4.3% abv apple ale - homebrew
5 gal of 6% pumpkin ale - homebrew
5 gal of 7.6% late hopped red ale. Centennial & Amarillo - homebrew

1 bottle of Left Hand's 2012 Fade to Black (Rocky Mtn Black Ale)
1 bottle of Schlafly's 2012 Christmas Ale
750ml of O'Dell's 2011 Bourbon Barrel Stout
