What can you say that hasn't already been said. The Lord always takes the good ones way too soon. I sure wish I could have hunted with Roger more than just one time. I will remember it forever. R.I.P. my friend.

I'm gonna miss that crusty ol' fart, but I'm glad, for his sake, that he's not hurting anymore. To borrow Bob Hope's line, "Thanks for the memories."

The last time I hunted with him, he had forgotten his gun. I can still hear him telling me not to be posting about it.

He sure had a rough few years fighting the end.

Roger probably did not want a funeral because he knew in his mind he would show up two hours late for it

My heart is heavy with the passing of Roger "Tigerstripe" Clark. We last talked in mid-January and it was kind of a goodbye sort of conversation. I guess last year he went back up in the Rockies for a last fishing trip with his boys, so he told me.

Roger was a fella who truly immersed himself in the natural world. A pragmatic sort of hunter, who knew more about huntin' critters than most of us put together.

We fortunately haven't lost too many Cafer's over the years, tho' I'll sorely miss this fella. RIP, my good friend. May the pill you draw up there be #1 every morning...

Rest in peace Roger. You will be missed!

I hope you're in a wonderful place where you can hunt ducks and geese in the morning, elk, deer and turkeys in the afternoon, and enjoy all the Glenfiddich you want in the evening.

And do it all over again tomorrow.

I remember meeting Roger at the BR and at Scouts. Roger and I had a great time talking ducks. I hope he got to hunt some of the spots we talked of on the Kaw prior to his passing. God speed Roger and condolences to his family from mine.

Matt - I hope to meet you at your father's wake. I've met alot of people in my line of work....and I can tell you without hesitation....he was an original model, not a copy of anyone I've ever met.

You should feel blessed....take care of your mom.

You remember when Roger was hunting some CA and an Air Force plane flew across the deck right over him. Dude took down the tail number, contacted Whitman (I think), and called in a verbal reprimand to the pilot and his staff for harassing wildlife and screwing up his hunt. That was an awesome story.

The last trip Roger and I took was to fish early spring in "HomeofToto". We never hooked a fish.

Then, we got checked by a possum cop at the ramp. He talked his way out of two possible violations on his boat / trailer. He was right proud of that.

We were headed back to his house, where he threatened to make the best chile relenos I ever ate.

When we got there, Carol was getting ready to fill a cast iron skillet with pan fried chicken. Roger tried to apologize for the change of menu.

I know this much. I sat down to a world class meal, and enjoyed it with two exceptional people.

God bless the Clark family, and please keep us abreast of the details of the celebration of Roger's life.

Greg

Muggs, that low altitude fly-over incident actually happened along the MO River north of St. Joe. It was a C-130 plane out of Elwood, KS. Roger kept pursuing the incident until he spoke with the Air National Guard pilot, which he soundly chewed his arse for messing up his hunting. That was classic Roger.

I believe he called the Colonel to complain and it ended up being the Colonel that was flying the plane for some Ks. Congressman.

once three others joined Roger on a late shoot at Bob Brown. It was a warm up period the last couple weeks of season and Brown had only been hunting a couple positions daily. Well there was almost a full crowd and Roger decided to hunt Snipe since nobody had been in there for 3-4 days and it was full of corn that year. These four fellas went in and murdered the ducks. When turning in their cards they all put down one mallard killed. The next morning some of the crew joined up with Roger again to hunt at Brown. People kept looking that the board and mumbling that it must have been tough in Snipe since all the other pools shot 4 per hunter the day before. MDC gave their speech and a small grumpy comment about filling your cards out correctly and they thought there was some "funny business going on". Roger goes back up to pull a pill and was the 5th person to pick a pool to hunt. He looks at Marty and says" Well I guess we'll try snipe again today it might be better with this wind" When they left that pool the next day MDC was waiting at the ramp to collect their cards in person. Roger laughed about that one for a LONG time.

I remember the MDC guy meeting Roger, Hawk, myself, and another guy that was a friend of Hawk's at the boat ramp on another day. Two other parties were there as well, and that guy checked everybody for green cards and numbers of ducks. I think about the time he showed up we were taking some pics and Hawk had a mallard between his teeth. Fun day; full limits of ducks and lots of wisecracks. I believe it was also a day that Hawk nearly walked off into the boat canal and would have floated his hat except he was holding onto the side of the boat.

At the last Dovestock, Roger brought a full bottle of the Glenlevet and sets it out in plain sight on one of the picnic tables. He sidles up to me and confides the bottle is full of water. Not sure if anyone fell for his little prank, but at least he thought it was purty funny.

Roger took DMac and me hunting some years ago at Bob Brown. He'd been recently whacking mallets with regularity at a pool with a name I don't recall. Flooded corn with open strips. We got set up and realized the damned ducks had finished off the corn a day or two before, so we didn't have squat come into range. At the end I did manage to whack a drake and Sandy made an awesome fetch 50+ yards in the cornfield.

But Roger didn't want us tellin' anybody we didn't do well. He was just that way.
