Mulberry?
      #220189 - 07/01/11 02:19 PM

Had two huge limbs blow down at the old house that I had to work up.

Anybody want it, or is it worth a chit for smoking?

DMR - You tried it, right? Any good?

Thanks Wu.

Looks like I'll be trying some mulberry smoke. If I don't like it, I've got a dozer pile it can help create habitat in.

When I was in the Scouts, we used to try grapevine for smoking. Gave off a real el ropo flavor

I've never used Mulberry but I've read that it is like a mix of Apple and Blackberry briers. Of course, I've never tried Blackberry briers either so my post is pretty much worthless.

My neighbors cut down a Mulberry tree last year that was growing into my fence but they left a 4' tall stump. One of these days I'm gonna cut a hunk off from it to try.

Foots is right. Methusela was the denmother; Methuselah was the scoutmaster.

I've used it several times and it gives a real mild smoke to the meat. Maybe a little lighter than apple but sweeter. Got piles of it I have to move so don't need any for the next 50-60 years......

Did some baby backs other day with a little mulberry and pecan. light rub with medium smoke on charcoal. butt tender but not shredding. you could turn the bone in the meat and not break the meat. used a carolina sauce last 15 minutes. dayum good. Thanks for the wood Greg.

You're welcome,Dave.

I agree, it's a light flavor. It almost has a citrus flavor. It's real good for skrimps.

Used some commercial rasberry chipote (bought by accident) on chicken.... decent flavor but chit is quick to burn on a grill...
