Maybe.
I'm up for letting the 1/8 tax go away and doubling the license fees for residents. We currently pay about $52 for instate deer tags, turkey tags, and small game with fishing. Doubling fees would double their money to roughly $80 million for fees. They should also double deer tags to OOS hunters, especially those in "HomeofToto", Illinois, and Iowa. IF we went there to hunt, it would cost twice as much as them hunting in MO if a person was even lucky enough to draw.

If I'm reading it right, the second bill would eliminate lic. fees for Mo.residents-so they can't be doubled for 80 millon. If both pass it would be a loss of 110+40 millon??

Both won't pass. I realize what they are trying to do. Eliminate one or the other. When it passed originally, sportsmen were sold on an idea that license fees would never increase.........yet they have numerous times. You can't get rid of the sales tax and license fees. MDC would then not be funded at all.
Eliminate the 1/8 sales tax and make MDC pay attention to sportsmen. Several states I've hunted in charge their residents close to $100 a year for all their tags. You get deer, spring turkey, small game and fishing for $100. Double the archery and fall turkey or throw them into one huge "Yearly All Sportsman" package Duck stamp fees almost doubled for next uear. I don't see people pissing and moaning about it. Double license fees, get rid of the 1/8 tax measure and double OOS deer tags or make them reciprocal agreements. The surrounding states have no problem sticking it to MO residents that want to hunt there. Make those OOS hunters pay the same to come here.

It won't immediately. But in time, it will swing the focus of the MDC back to where it began and where many of us think it should be. It doesn't have to be 100% hunters, trappers and folks that fish. But the MDC's primary role should be in those areas. And they should be forced to listen to what the people of the state want to see in those areas (within the bounds of good conservation). We now have a grossly over-funded state organization that has very little accountability to the people of the state. It is run by tree-huggers and naturalist that care less and less about the outdoorsmen and more and more about keeping control of every aspect of hunting and fishing.
I have little hope this will go anywhere for one simple reason: The MDC has millions to spend fighting this and they will. They will start by lobbying the lawmakers and if it ever got to the voters, they would put on the biggest campaign you ever saw. In addition, they will get help from every tree-hugging organization out there. This attempt to reign them in will be portrayed as an attack on nature. they'll show little bunnies, deer feeding in a meadow and little kids fishing...
Don't hold your breath on this one...

I get ya on the accountability,I guess when they know the money will keep rolling in matter what they do,they start acting like congress.
I never had a problem with anything they did.Was kinda a homebody so kicked around the smithville area for my fishing and some hunting.Guess if I was a waterfowler,I could biatch up a storm, but only went a few times.

I've taken Dogs advice and decided all hunting should be done in other places/states. I am wondering what the duck hunting is going to be like in Cuba.

I'm sure it's the best thing you have ever done. I've hunted more in the last 3 years OOS than I ever have. It was an amazing time. 89 days of killing ducks in other states doesn't get any better. Get up, Go hunt, and don't worry about anything but bringing extra shells. I miss Hunting in MO like I grew up doing, but my eyes have been opened up to great things OOS. I'm looking forward to more years of killing ducks in more states without a draw or 1 pm closure or not Hubting ibto January because some clowns want you to shoot at 3000 stale ducks for the first 2 weeks of duck season.

Yes Yes Yes, I am more interested in the future of duck hunting in Cuba, and the financial opportunities that may be presenting themselves.
