Dragging the ol man around the country to get our Grand Slam in one season. Was able to get it done in Florida on public land. Leaving for the Indian Res in South Dakota in the morning.

Cool
Always heard the Osceola was the hardest one of the slam to get--
I'm sure that would start an argument with the Eastern hunters that claim if a Eastern turkey could smell, you would never kill one--
Anyway-- good on you and your Dad

We killed 3 in 2 1/2 days of hunting in Florida. Those swamp birds make an Eastern look easy. They don't gobble past 10. Rarely gobble going to roost. The cover is thick as hell. Suckers disappear and reappear like a magician. I shot my bird at 8 yards. Saw it at 20. Didn't see it again until it stepped out.
While trying to get from a western area of the land to the eastern, trying to get on a bird it took me literally me 30 minutes to go 200 feet. Belly crawling to get through places and crawling up on huge piles of bear chit. Palms and briars everywhere. A few places were burned, which made it nice......but we never saw birds in those areas. Planning to go back again next year for one with big hooks. I want one with 1.75+" spurs.
Dad has killed plenty of Easterns, but has never been OOS to hunt turkeys. He has always talked about the slam, and I told him to piss on his garden Preperstions for a weekend or two and make the trip to kill them all in one season. Glad he took me up on the offer.

When we were in the Black Hills, the Merriam's we photographed tended to work some steeeeeep topography. We tried to find them in the creek drainage-- easier to navigate and better backgrounds etc
SoDak Indians?? You must be heading to the Rosebud area
For my money-- The Merriam is the best looking of the sub species-- if you can find one with a lot of white on the double ring on his tail--

Oklahoma bound now to check on work crews and to hopefully kill my Rio for the year. I'm done with my slam, if you count multiple years.......:but I'll still kill them all in one year. Could have killed this bird yesterday, but I let Mongo wack him

Was able to kill my Eastern yesterday. Great way to finish out my Season Grand Slam. Plenty of miles and lots of great memories. I think the Gould's is next year if I can talk the ol man into going.

Was another great season Haus. Blessed to be able to hunt the So much every spring. Nearly got tot he 20 bird mark again this spring. Dad wanted to get a double slam in on year. He didn't get his second Eastern, and with 1/2 acre of strawberries.......he is forked for getting back out. I guess we will have to do it all again next year.
Damn fine bird John. Everyone said it was a tough year in MO, but I watched 6 die on public land this year. The weather definitely sucked balls, but when it wasn't raining it was damn good
