There's a group of us that meet almost every Tuesday, and after a bit of shooting we start a fire and just hang out for several hours. They all drink beer, but I drink Coke, Dr. Pepper, or water. Lately I've been wondering if I'd even like beer anymore, since I haven't had one since the 90s, but decided to try the ones I used to like. (I tried some of theirs, and didn't like them). First up was PBR, which was my favorite, but it tasted sour to me.
Next week I'm going to try the other one I liked, which was Heineken. In case I don't like that one either, I'm asking if there's a sharp beer, because the wine I like is really sharp. (Gallo Twin Valley Chardonney). I don't like smooth or fruity drinks, which is why I also like the bite that Coke has.
Anything like that out there?

i think of lots of C02 when i think of sharp, so that's not a flavor in my book. Soda pop is highly carbonated, so it has a sharp bite.
IPA's are bitter and you may like them. probably one of the most bitter IPA's out there is Sierra Nevada's Torpedo.
If you haven't drank beers since the 90's, and you start trying craft beer, cinch your belt up, especially if you try some IPA's. Lots of alcohol content and tons of flavor.
You might also try some of the hard ciders out there too. I can't remember which are drier than others, but part of the fun of finding something is the sampling of everything. i think the sharpness you're describing is more related to astringent characteristics similar to a green persimmonm which is commonly called "dry" in the wine industry.

If bitter equals sour, I wouldn't like it. I just want sharp, without leaving a sour taste a few seconds after each time I drink.
Thanks for the help though, and I'll post the results of future trials.

Try Coors Light. It isn't sharp , sour or bitter. As a matter of fact it is as close to drinking water as you will get in a brew.

I tried Heineken and Busch, and the Heineken was pretty good when I took a drink, but then I still got that after taste that I didn't like.
One of my friends started making his own beer about four months ago, and he wants me to try his. He's only made sours so far though, so I didn't try it yet.

Not *no* after taste, just *good* after taste. Maybe I'll just stick with the Chardonney I like, but I wanted to try something different.

I know Russellville is in the middle of the state, but if you're over StL way go into Illinois and get some Yuengling Original Lager. It's a Pennsylvania beer made by America's oldest brewery and it's not sold in Missouri because there's not enough of it to go around.
If you don't like that one, you just don't like beer!

Look who's back!!
Sam, Arkansas started selling Yuengling a few months ago, but don't drive down to buy any on Sunday. They won't sell it, at least not in Benton County.

Afraid I'm in a pitiful shape when it comes to beer right now, at least temporarily.
#2 son-in-law here near Sparta was getting too fat so he went on a low-carb diet and lost 40 lbs. in 4 months. My wife and I started that diet about 10 days ago and I've lost 10 lbs. already. She hasn't lost that much and I know my rapid initial weight loss is due to (sob) giving up beer. The low-carb diet info refers to beer as "pure liquid carbohydrate", dammit.
My bedtime beverage is now a glass of cabernet sauvignon. Well, it's kind of a big glass.

that's too bad about the diet, but glad to hear you're working to get healthier. can't hunt or fish when you're horizontal. my workplace offered a free membership into a pgm called naturally slim. it's not a diet but a lifestyle change. you get to eat & drink anything you want. I did it last fall and lost 25# in 7 weeks with zero added exercise. they just help you change your eating habits. plus you can still drink beer. anyway, thought i'd mention it in case you get miserable with your diet..

i made an 8% abv ipa a couple years ago for a buddy's 40th b-day. after about four pints, he started getting loud and slurring his speech. he's 6'5 and 250.
he called me the next day and said I needed to call it "Speech Impediment". I laughed and told him it was going to be that or "Divorce Proceedings"

Man, on my nearly 6 year journey with IPA's I have hit those high ABV beers here and there..... I have been lost in my own home.

that german fella at urban chestnut can brew some damn fine beer.
if you haven't already, try the zwickel. it's not a hoppy beer, it's a Bavarian lager and it's what yellow fizzy beer SHOULD taste like.
