With the 2018 season under way, I finally got the chance to watch a little golf yesterday afternoon. And what a treat is was. A great finish in regulation, an epic playoff and a little drama and controversy to boot. 5 holes of sudden death, until darkness then 1 this morn. for Jason Day to wrap it up. Alex Noren looks like he is going to win a few events on the PGA tour this year.
JB Holmes is about as unpopular as you can get amongst his fellow players right now. I imagine his caddy will get an earful as well, as they both should. I never heard what the final time was on the 18the fairway but felt like 30 mins, as I was watching it unfold. Or more accurately, not unfold... You pull a stunt like that, under those circumstances, you deserve a fine and a warning.
Tiger is back. My guess is for a few more weeks until something else breaks on him. He might even get himself in a position to win one but no way he lasts a whole season. He's like my 2001 Chevy truck with 360,000 miles on it. It can only be trusted to go so far...

They say it was only 4 minutes and 10 seconds that Holmes stood there. It felt like an hour!! If I had been his competitors I would be pissed.I heard people in the gallery yelling "hit the damn ball". Had I been there I would have completed the sentence with "asshole".

I played Saturday and went 40/46.
But it was a nice walk anyway.

40/46 is not bad in January, in Missouri. In fact 50/56 or 60/66 would be OK for January in Missouri...
I will be in warm climates plenty the next 3-4 weeks for work and a little vacation but won't get to swing a club. Between work and a knee scope that is sloooowly healing, it will be mid-March to April before I can get out...

We shot quail all weekend in Texas. Apparently golf season hasn't opened here. In a few weeks the walleye boat comes out. Yall must not know how to fish or quit hunting.

Or we do both... Not much better than a livewell full of crappie, a bagged turkey or a sack full of 'shrooms and 18 holes in the same day...

Last I checked...........it’s not turkey season or warm enough for morels. Like o said.........golf is for people who quit hunting and fishing between Feb 1 and April 1

Dude, about 90% of the people, in Missouri, that hunt and fish don't do much of either in Jan, Feb and most of March. In fact, most of the golfers, in Missouri, don't do much golfing in that time either. But let's not pretend that golfers don't hunt, fish, chase tail, drink, smoke, cuss and fart just like the supposedly mighty hunters that don't golf. The only difference is the folks that don't golf are probably just not skilled enough to play the game and enjoy it. And I have to admit, if I was that bad at golf, I probably would not play either... Maybe take a few lessons?

Sounds like a bunch of damn excuses to me. Boat comes out of the shop for walleye next weekend. It would have been out this weekend, but considering my house nearly burnt to the ground and the Old Ladies "She Shed" did burn to the ground, I have to make sure the damn contractors show up to work and to make sure its done right. The eyes and slabs can wait until next weekend. The best time of the year to fish is right now. The lake isn't crowded with asshats and fork.... Turkeys start in less than 5 weeks. Why take up golf lessons when a man can hunt and fish 365 days a year. Not once on any hunting or fishing trip have I thought.......damn, we should bring the golf clubs to NOT hunt or fish one day and golf. I'm not that bad at golf, I just don't see a point in playing when there is a lake, marsh, or field to go play in. Sure you get to drink while golfing.......but that can be done while fishing and hunting also.
I guess if I was that damn bad at hunting and fishing, I might golf more often.....or take golf clubs on a hunting and fishing trip. I guess when the fishin and huntin gets bad, yall just golf. I'll stare at empty skies or an empty livewell and still have a way better time than chasing a white pill to a gopher hole all day.

Put your money on JT, if you can figure out how this whole match play event works. Was stroke play not working or did some think, "Let's confuse the hell out of our fans..."

Reed........Hatton...Rafa-Bello... Sergio again...... Xabder......J Day........Matsuyama.....Casey..Stenson... Schwartel.........Pieters.....Rose.......Finau......and a few others I suppose.

I like Noren and Aphibarnrat for wild card players.
I think this course is too long and tight for Woods to actually win but he might contend.
I agree too hard to call. If I had to bet I'd go with Rose or old lefty who knows this course so well.
Augusta can eat you up in a heartbeat.

FatMan can play 4 sure.
Fatso has had 2 bad 4th rounds with leads as such in the past.
But, he's thinner now and I just hope he shoots something in the 60's. 69 will work.
Then Rory shoots another 65 & completes the Slam.
Ya know thou....got a feelin that Reed will get er done.
What u say??

Shinnecock is said to be far better balanced since its last hosting of the Open.
Pick away but just about impossible to predict with any kind of certainty.
I like it that way.
Hope to catch the last few hours on Sunday!

I didn't get to see any of today's round but seeing the scores, it looks like it chewed them up and spit them out. Quite a few of the favorites dug themselves some pretty deep holes. Looks like DJ hasn't missed a beat since his last win, so long ago...
Hard to imagine him not winning after today.
And to think he still has to sit down at Thanksgiving dinner and be the second best at the table...

Just saw what Phil pulled out of his hat on that 12th green.
That's what I would have done. bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
There should be MORE courses that make these guys face what most of us do when we go and play a round.
Even or +1 gets you a Cup. That's about right.

Any recreational golfer that isn't a 5 or less handicap (and most of them) would have shot well over 100 on that course and in those conditions. I am a 12 and figure I would have shot 100 or higher, probably much higher.
Got to love the media and golf snobs trying to make more of Phil's indiscretion on 13 than it warranted. According to some, he should be banned from all courses for life and for the rest of us normal people, it was just a good laugh. I like Joe Buck most of the time but man did he try to make it a controversy for the ages (or more importantly for the ratings). Pulllleeeeaaaase Joe!!
You know it was brutal when the best players in the world were missing 4' and 5' putts with regularity.
Put all your money on Phil for The Open Championship at Carnoustie next month. Man, would that be rich!!

I was there and I can tell you it was worse Saturday than TV will ever be able to show you. The pin on 13 was like being on the 5th step leading to your basement and trying to put from the first step.Make it or die. Phil did what most of the field wanted to do.

Take it from a guy that does a lot of work in NY & NJ and has to work with those idiots all the time (starting a job in Woodbury, NY next week and one in Paramusm, NJ next month), the meatheads-per-capita is waaaaaay above the national average. Throw in some booze, a sporting event and that obnoxious accent and you have the perfect storm of stupidity. Every forkin' shot required one or more of the meatheads to shout something idiotic. My guess is they are mostly bitter that the Waste Management, Phoenix Open laid claim to the only tournament where fans can be obnoxious and get away with it.
Man I have really learned to hate most of those people up there...
