Not a bad effort after a ten day break. Not bad at all.

They finished their plays, the effort was there for most all players.

Petro played horrible. This guy has dropped off the cliff I just don't get it.

Binnington wins again. He is solid with his mechanics, stays cool and steady under pressure. That's 4 starts in a row with 3 wins. Has Berube finally made the switch?

The team moved up a notch. A long way to go thanks to the hole they put themselves into. February is as brutal as it gets, tons of games and strong opponents.

It was good to see Ragnar in that last episode.

Can't wait for Bjorn to cut his gimpy bro's nuts off.

I was not some place I could watch the game......I see the numbers are starting to turn around though. They may pull this off with Allen on the bench.

Have to give credit where it's due. Jbo has been good.

Not excusing playing him early as they did when he was clearly not ready but he is now.

Tonight will tell a lot. And they don't even have to win. They just need to compete for 60 mins. A win or OTL/tie would be impressive. These are the games that have defined the Blues this year and not in a good way. They have taken any momentum they managed to create and destroy it with a lackluster performance after a good win or two. For them to have any chance of getting in the playoffs they need to be playing at a .700 winning percentage from here on out and they simply can't lay any eggs along the way. Losses are going to happen, especially when you are playing teams like TB (best in the NHL right now). Who, by the way are 20-5-1 on home ice. Yikes!!

I've given up on the tanking and getting a top 5 pick. The only hope is to make the playoffs and pray they can win a round there...

Fork tanking. This is not a roster to tank on.

And you need to look at the standings. Highly possible 90 points can get a team in, they do not "need" .700 win percentage. But Blues current pace gets them in by plenty, they are 7-2-1 in last ten.

For me, sure, play offs. But far more than that is to advance this team and find out who the real pieces are and what they need to get better.

Trade dead line will be very interesting if they can keep this pace up.

Good luck in Tampa Blues. And you too Binny. Ya'll are playing the best in the game.

If you like old time hockey, that was a pretty good game. Most impressive by the Blues was the tight checking, disciplined, defense first approach. They did very good job of puck control and working as one unit. They withstood a few pretty good pressures by TB and kept their cool. Only criticism for me was the lack of mucking in front of the net. When a netminder is stopping everything you throw at him, it's time to create havoc in front of him and get a dirty goal or two.

Unfortunately, Allen is going to have to play one of the games this weekend. May they'll trade him by then...

Listened to the game on the radio....still enjoy hockey on the radio like I did as a kid. I'm guarded about this team. but they're playing well. Lets see what happens now that they're making everybody's radar. I have no faith they can push through that. I'd be ok with being wrong.

PP still sucks too. Sit Petro and let Dunn and Parayko handle that.

Incredible game and monster win. With decent goal tending, just need to get Schwartz and Schenn scoring and third place is right there to be had in the next few weeks.

I hope Binnington is the real deal. He is only 25 and could have a long productive career. But JA started like a ball of fire as well and...
I may easily have missed one or two, but I cannot recall binnington letting in a soft goal. Has he let in some soft ones and I missed it/them? A .930 save % so far and a 1.70 GAA is pretty stellar..

The one game he lost he still played pretty solid. He will not keep this pace up but I just hope the Blues now give him the same deference they gave Allen for the last 3 years.

He's very calm, cool and solid fundamentals. Love how he comes out to challenge. I think I've seen him flop around once or twice, Allens average per period. He also isn't looking to blame things on circumstances or "team play". They say he's weak up high because he likes to play the ice. Haven't seen that as a problem yet. I'm sure players have been trying to adjust for the last number of games.

He's a seasoned rookie, been around the minors for some time. We'll see how far he can go, I hope they give him and this team at least that.

Blues could really use a split this weekend. I am sure it will be Binny at home Saturday and Allen in Nashville on Sunday.

Who are these guys?? So is the change due to the change in the netminder? Is Berube coaching differently or just getting through to them? It's the same players but they sure look like a different team!

For sure Binny. For Tarasenko and Jbo, injuries are finally healing. Berube has the team playing a zone type D and the gaps are being covered. He's not a whiz type coach but he has straightened out some big problems. Some kids have now got their feet wet. Everybody playing for each other. Lots of reasons.

Easy to be cautious but this is a very good roster with decent goal tending. To me, they are playing like I was expecting, picking them 3rd in division. If Binny is real, if Petro and even Eddie can play up to their normal and if Schwartz can start to light the lamp things should get very interesting.

Of course, Army could fork everything up in the coming 2 weeks. bwaaaaaaaaaa

Good luck in Nashville boys....gonna need a gem down there.

I guess you guys don't remember the run they had last year about this time......right before their character issues caught up with them and they sulked and pouted all the way to nowhere.

When the going gets tough.....and it's about to....this team has folded every time.

It'd be nice if they don't, and I'm not rooting against them....but I don't think they have the horses to sustain anything meaningful.

Never seen a team whine like the preds. Whine, dive and after whistle bullsheeeet.Bunch of punks. They just got tough picking up Boyle and McCleod hope it blows up in their face. forking hate this team.

0-0 after 1, I'll take it.

A few big differences with this team than the last. One is goal tending and yes, it has to hold up.

Two is O'Reilly and he has yet to play a bad game all year. The guy makes everybody better and the Blues finally have themselves a leader on the ice.

I agree that O'reilly is a real leader....if he makes everyone better, thats a recent deal for this bunch...they have sucked for 75% of the season. I hope it continues.

Re: The REAL 2018-2019 Saint Louis Blues Thread [Re: griffin]
      #258705 - 02/11/19 08:11 AM

So, I watched the 1st period at LOZ, then determined the roads were good enough to go home. I picked up the game on XM and had to listen to the Nashville broadcast. They were pretty even handed with their analysis and even complimentary of the Blues quite a bit. But the quality of the play-by-play was embarrassingly bad. The guy sounded plenty seasoned (old) but he was far from smooth. I made no commentary about it and after about 5-10 mins my wife asked, "Is it just me or is this guy not very good?" And unlike me, she listens to hockey on the radio very seldom. It got me to thinking how spoiled we are and have been with broadcasters in all sports but particularly hockey. For me it started with Dan Kelly/Gus Kyle, then those few dark years until they got Ken Wilson, now Chris Kerber. I try not to think about the evenings my ears bled listening to Ron Jacober trying to do Blues play-by-play. Mike Claiborne gave it a go a few times as well and wow, was it bad. But I like both of those guys for color, commentary and sports talk shows, so I won't rip them too hard. They both seem like really good dudes.

Once I got past Mineola Hill, I tuned into KMOX and heard the sweet sound of Chris Kerber's flowing call of the game and seamless commentary as the game progressed. To hear the Tarasenko OT goal reminded me of the days laying on the floor, as a kid, listening to Dan Kelly's voice crescendo as the play developed into "He shoots he scooooorrrrressss!!!!"

As far as TV, John Kelly and Panger do a great job as well. While John looks like his old man and even sounds like him a bit, he's just not quite as smooth. Still damn good but I actually think Chris Kerber is closer to Dan Kelly's style than John Kelly. Especially on the goal calls.

So, don't ever take for granted what we have here with regards to quality broadcasters for our sports teams. We have some of the best. Trust me, I listen to plenty as I travel around the country for my work. Most are not nearly as good as what we have.

As far as the Blues, this is some sort of inexplicable metamorphosis that will confound anyone trying to analyze it. I guess we just hope for it to continue and get them into the playoffs.
