I haven't heard any early morning shots, but the people who normally hunt the bottoms across the road weren't there this year. Locals kids are older and have been hunting there though.

Work has been brutally busy and the few chances I had to go were during nasty weather. I've chatted with a few guys that regularly bag 2 birds and both have been shut out so far. My guess is the combination of the crappy weather and poor hatches in recent years has kept the numbers down a bit. Most people are telling me the birds gobble 5-6 time and go silent, never to be seen or heard again...
Who knows...

From start to finish it took 38 days to kill the Single Season World Slam of turkeys. Started in Florida on March 26th and finished it in Kansass May 2nd. I did have a lot of down time between trips, so it really took 14 days of hunting to get the birds killed. I shot a Grand Slam with my 28 gauge, using my handloaded TSS. That stuff is wicked to shoot. To date 11 birds have been killed in 14 days of hunting, so I have been hard on them this season in a short amount of time.
I do need to kill one more Eastern to complete a Double World Slam in one season. Should get that done this weekend. Hunted 3 days in Florida and I called in 4 birds to their death. Mexico was a slaughterhouse. We shot 10 Ocellated Turkeys between 5 of us, and 10 Gould's between 6 of us. Calling in the jungle Ocellated bird using an e-caller was different. Hunted 2 days and we killed 4 Merriams and 2 days of hunting killed 3 Rios. I needed only one day for an Eastern, but I guess things worked out better than others for an Eastern bird. I've seen more birds at my house this year than the previous 3-4 years, so I think the bird population is doing better than previously.

Didn’t get out as much like I had planned
Had a gobbler going for about an hour and a half He was on a ridge that was on property that I did not have permission to hunt I was in the holler below it
I’d Yelp and cut and generally every trick I knew and he’d answer Back and forth
I went silent hoping he’d come down He kept gobbling and then gave up and went over the ridge
I hung out for another hour and a half hoping he’d remember and sneak in
Never saw him
Had to take care of business the next day
Got a phone call from the property owner telling me a tom was strutting with 4 hens on the plowed ground
Too little......too late
Will try to photograph one next week but I think I am rat forked LOL
