I would tell you to take a picture against a solid background and see what it looks like —-if it shows, it will always show to some extent….yeah, you can do some software fixes but if you can get it right straight out of the camera,it will not only save you time but also give you peace of mind

Your call…… but

I would probably send it back

Thank you for the link.

I've got something funny to share..

I was going to take your advice and send the lens back since it's within the 21 days.

I got to looking and I haven't been charged for the camera or lens..

I won't describe the software glitch and it wasn't intentional, but I think I know how the transaction went thru without charging me.
Anyway, I sent them an e-mail yesterday letting them know they didn't charge me. I don't feel right keeping this stuff for free.

Thanks for the links! I've been reading them and watching online. It all makes sense when I read/hear the setting suggestions, but then I go work on something else and forget it. It'll stick when I start doing it more.

I've taken a ton of pics the past few weeks, but I've not done any altering of any, nor purchased any software. I try to get them as perfect as possible on the camera first.

I'll see if I can upload a few later on.

Here's some of the unaltered photos (except one that I added some vignette to on IRfanview)

Most are okay. I imagine I could make most of them "pop" a little more with some software altering, but I haven't ventured into that yet.

I'm still learning all of the chit ton of settings within the camera..

Looks like you are having fun
I don’t want to interrupt your fun with tech stuff/critiques

You might want to Google Rule of Thirds (I call it the suggestion of thirds and the Golden Ratio)

A good friend that does landscape/travel photography recommended

https://markdenneyphotography.com/blog

You might want to look up Jack Dykinga ( big medicine—he would know me by sight but I doubt he remembers my name) Jason Black and John Shaw

You're always welcome to critique, criticize and make suggestions.
Those are not well received by many these days, but I don't take it personal (when considering the source).

I played ball in college and coached a lot of kids in high school. Those things are the building blocks to success.

I will do the research you shared. Thank you

Very nice
Great composition and foreground background sharp

some purist might say you need to raise or lower your horizon line depending on what you want to emphasize………..but there ain’t any purists in this collection of rag tag yahoos.

Thank you sir!

i couldn't lower it any more cause the deck railing was in the way

you can see a bit of it in the lower right.

it was one of those moments where you look outside and think "i ought to get a shot of this before it's gone"

If I may piggyback in this thread, and ask Wu a question;

I have determined that my camera skills are non-existent, and I can take almost the same pics with my phone as with my Nikon. I plan to sell the Nikon, and a family member wants to buy it, but I want to be fair to both of us. I have searched for other 3200s for sale (not sold/completed sales), and the same camera kit is listed from $240 to $350 with and without the longer lens.

Do you have an opinion on what price would be fair to both sides?

Kurt
Assuming camera and lens are in avg -avg plus condition and has a good battery

the bundle shown in the pix is worth $ 250 to $275 (family member discount applied)

Add a memory card $275 firm ……..if you have 2 cards ,throw the 2nd in as a family deal deal….

extra battery $290 -$300

If you have a decent camera bag (not just a padded slip on) $300-$325

All of this is my opinion assuming a good functioning unit sold as a kit/bundle…..you or your family member’s mileage may vary

BTW….this is a solid entry level kit……

Thanks, Bill. 16G Sandisk SD card and original bag are included, but not shown. One battery, in good condition.

Haus and Wu,

A little twist of fate here; My son decided that this isn't the type of camera that he wants to start with, so I'm going to put it up for sale. I figured that I'd start here, so let me know if anyone here is interested. $300 sound good for non-son buyers?

Kurt
Try a new thread offering the camera for sale ……..not everyone follows this thread
If no one buys it, then I will ask a fella that runs a camera club to list for their members

I realize you aren’t gonna come into St Louis and see what Schillers would give you for the equipment……wholesale vs retail….they would need to make $ reselling it etc

You might look at KEH,B&H,Adorama and see what they would be willing to pay…..but again, they would be buying to resell
