Welp, the Nashville game exposed two of the Blues biggest issues. #1 - Slow starts and sloppy 1st periods. #2 - An anemic power play. Hard to imagine having that much talent on your #1 and #2 lines, as well as top scoring defensemen, and not being able to have a decent power play. As much as I like this coaching staff, this in primarily on them. Whatever system they're trying to employ is not a good fit for this group of players. And it appears their ability to recognize situations and adjust is very limited, when it comes to the power play. The good news is they can fix it. The talent and effort are there. They just need a better game plan for the power play.
As far as the 1st periods go, that is mostly on the players. They need to show up ready to play. And I'll even go a step further and put more of that on the Captain and Alternate Captains.
If it weren't for Hutton last night, the Blues could have trailed 3 or 4 -0 after that 1st period. That was some uninspired, sloppy hockey...
Hopefully, they clean it up tonight against the Wild. They need a strong start...
Go Blue!!
