No sense in waiting around. Stillman and Armstrong are already huddled around a table with their assistants and scouts and coaching staff, trying to figure out who to sign, who to let walk, who to trade and who to draft...
The draft is tonight and tomorrow. Buffalo went from a likely top 5 pick, from the Blues, on January 3rd, as part of the O'Reilly trade to #31 as of last week. Between that and Berglund quitting hockey, they can't be looking too fondly on that trade. But they also have #7, as the result of their own efforts this past season. The Blues don't pick until #62, so not much chance of an immediate impact player. Unless, of course, they trade up...
I am thinking everyone in STL is wondering how they are going to get rid of Allen and not have to eat some of his salary. Maybe Buffalo is willing to deal again Dumping him and that salary would free up some cap room and allow them to sign a respectable back-up for half his cost or less. Then they have to figure out how to deal with the Binnington signing. Do they do a gap deal and have to pay more at the end of it or just bite the bullet and sign him long term? I wouldn't want to have to make that call. As a side note, his agent is Mike Liut.
The rest is even more complicated, especially when you look at the contracts coming due in the next 2 years. Simply put, there are going to be some significant changes to this team between now and the start of the '19-'20 season. Sort of hard to think about while still basking in the glory of the Cup win but a reality nonetheless. Griffin may get his way and they'll not have some of the players he hates so much.
And finally, can we scale back on the playing of Gloria? Great story and fun while it lasted but anyone that isn't getting a little Gloria burnout is probably still drunk from last week.
Go Blues
