I made it to the 35 second mark and lost interest. That chit is for Doug Armstrong to figure out. My job is to watch games, yell at the TV and then come here the next morning to set you rubes straight...
Hockey guy is great. This angle on the game is not for everybody but I found it pretty interesting and might very well be running through Binners head right now. I'm not sure the Blues offered him a 4 or 5 year deal or if they did and he said no due to the new TV contract coming up but it makes sense that may be what is happening.
I'm guessing Binnington will bet on himself and take the risk to strike his best deal in 2-3 years. When it comes to a goalie, this is the riskiest position of all.
Back story here. Last year, when I was south, the news of The Humboldt Broncos Hockey Team bus crash, was everywhere. For decades, this game has been the only way out of those remote northern towns, for some kids. It's a way of life, and there are things far more tragic, than not making it to the big leagues, nor money.
I couldn't quite place the Humboldt name, until I realized it was the town where Glenn Hall played junior hockey. Then, the iconic image of Bobby Orr's goal on Glenn Hall, spread eagle, flying across the ice came to mind. From that moment on, I couldn't help to think that somewhere, somehow, there is going to be another goalie, who comes from nowhere, and brings this little town, and Mr. Hall, some joy in the game again.
