Now, just be the real deal kid and this team can have some more fun.
Had they gone to arbitration, he would have been paid that or more. This is a pretty good deal for both parties and most of all, the fans. While his run was stellar and we're all sure he is the second coming of Jacques Plante, the reality is he may be great or he may not. If he is great, this will be the best goalie contract in the NHL, by far. If not, he isn't costing $8 or $10 mil per year like Price or Bobrovsky or Lundqvist or Rask... If he puts together 2 years like the last 6 months, he will be a wealthy man as a UFA ... and likely not playing for the Blues.
I would imagine he will be pretty good but he will come down to Earth. That run was a special time and under very special circumstances. It will be very hard to play at that level for an 82 game season. He also has to avoid injury and that is no small task, considering the tactics most teams employ against a stud in net (see Blues tactics during the playoffs against Bishop and Rask). My guess is they will use Allen more than most back-ups and he'll get the rest he needs to stay healthy and sharp.
Looking forward to seeing how he fares for a whole season. The grind of 82 games is a lot different than half of a season where every game was huge.
Go Blues!!
