He has to keep this team competitive and be in a position to sign key players in the next few years. Even if they pull a Backes and let Petro walk or trade him, they will have to replace him with a top line player. On the bright side, a few deals will go away and free up some cap space but all of that is so complicated you have to be a Philadelphia lawyer to figure it out...
As you guys know, I have defended Armstrong all along. I still feel he has a good sense of what needs to be done to keep this team compeditive. I'm sure he wants Maroon on the team but knows how much he can pay and for how long he can sign him. If Maroon gets a better deal elsewhere, he will likely have to take it. He can't be expected to keep signing one year deals, if there are multi-year deals on the table, especially the way he plays the game. And Army can't stray too far from the game plan for a 3rd or 4th line guy like Maroon.
Let's hope something works out. I don't really have a whole lot of concern about the finances of a guy that has made $9.2 mil, in the last 7 years. Good for him, if he can make more but that is for him to worry about. If he will sign for less here, I'm all for that!!
DA won the Cup so he goes into an undisputed new stratosphere I'll give him that but he gets an asterik on the Binnington "look what I found" miracle.
And secondly, DA's biggest weakness is negotiating re-up contracts so hang on to your hat the next few years.
