Tomahawk Chop 'em, Bubba!
So, last night I did not watch the TeeVee. I DID go to the Palm Springs Film Festival to watch "Once Were Brothers". It is a retrospective of America's finest rock and roll band, led by Robbie Robertson, who is Six Nations Native Canadian. He spoke before and after the film, about its making, and the demise of The Band. Much of it focused on his musical relationships with Arkansans Ronnie Hawkins and Levon Helm in Toronto in the early 60's. There was just a ton of unseen archived film and photos from this era, and interviews with George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan about The Band's musical influence on their own music.
Some see it as self-aggrandizing, I saw it as a pretty good depiction of how it really was. My folks were Hawkins fans way before I had a 45 turntable. It's just entertainment, after all....and the past isn't coming back.
So, this week, I rounded up my neighbor who has a 4-seater Cessna, and he's going to take me out flying. It needs to happen, and if I need to strap on snow skis, like my coach taught me, that can happen to0.
