Amazing....seriously. Not a big Nascar fan but happened to be watching the wnd of the race. The fact that Newman survived that wreck, with barely a mark on him, is nothing short of an engineering marvel.

That's one of the things I like so much about Monster Trucks; watching the things they can do, with so little damage to the frame, and (normally) no injuries at all to the drivers.

One example, that I filmed last month;

Well, here's the thing about Newman's wreck, and your film, go. A once of prevention is worth a pound of cure, right? The exact same welders and fabricators who diligently built Newman's car, and others in the Roush garages, have already been told that they make too much money, and are being released from their jobs at the end of this year. It's already happened to other teams. It's cheaper, and easier, so they tell me, to buy ready made frames and bolt on body parts, than to hire experienced engineers, fabricators and welders, who don't get complceant, who will work those extra hours, days and months, ever mindful of the safety of the human life in the car they are constructing. Not all heroes wear capes and get to hoist trophies. These are the unsung heroes in this wreck, and now the suits in head offices are tossing them under the bus.

Racing didn't come this far just to get this far. And, these folks who constructed that car just proved their worth a thousand times over.

With all due respect to the welders and assemblers of these frames, they are not the people that designed them and created the safer environment for the drivers. They are very important people and need to do their job well (and should be compensated accordingly) but the designers/engineers of these cars are the people that made/make the real difference. Robert Hubbard is the reason the Hans Device has saved countless lives and severe brain trauma, not the people that assemble them.

And don't take this as any knock on the blue collar workers that do the day to day work in any field. They are doing good, decent, honorable and important work. But there is a reason they make what they make and guys like Robert Hubbard made what he made...
